Cop Shoots and Kills Unarmed Deaf Man as He Tries to Communicate Using Sign Language

Could you please explain exactly how one can discern that someone is deaf at a distance of > 10m with a degree of certainty whilst categorically ruling out that person is not unstable and exhibiting that by making erratic hand gestures considering your sole evidence to date is that they have been driving erratically with a proven current history of failing to respond to law enforcement instructions.

I'm not saying the cop knew or should have known he was deaf. I'm just highlighting the sheer quantity of verbal demands you need to follow perfectly when getting arrested at gunpoint.

Exactly my point. It sucks, but it's objectively somewhat understandable especially after a violent car chase.

Defend himself from what?

Hand gestures can be pretty damaging, especially from a "distance of > 10m" :p

I mean I've had a deaf person hurling sign language my way, I could have sworn he gave me the middle finger several times. Thankfully I had an interpreter on hand :p

(totally understand you btw)

If he stopped and surrendered 20 minutes earlier and did the same sign language they'd have shot him anyway, no?

You don't spontaneously go deaf after 20 minutes in a police chase.

Where did the 20 minute police chase claim come from, am I missing some thing because it wasn't mentioned in the news clip?.

You've been warned once already, this is now a final warning. Stick to discussing the topic rather than all the childish bickering.

I have no idea what you expect of a discussion of this nature... you are a little over zealous with the moderating compared to in regular threads imo, but then it sometimes is with inexperienced mods.

The guy was deaf not blind. If the police wanted him to stop they'd have had lights on and signal him to pull over - by failing to stop that would have caused aggravation and by not hearing anything he was shot dead it seems to me?

I'm not condoning it but there seems to be more to tis story.....

I expect you to discuss the topic at hand rather than to continue bickering after you've just been given a warning to stop. And in future, if you want to raise anything do so by contacting a mod or posting in the forum content discussion section.

According to police, trooper Jermaine Saunders attempted to pull Harris over around 6:14 p.m. on Thursday. For an unknown reason, Harris did not stop and, instead, drove to his home.

During the pursuit, both cars became damaged and eventually came to a stop near Harris’ home.

Could this be any more intentionally vague?
It will be interesting to see and hear about the facts of this investigation. Hopefully there will be good BWV/In-car footage of the incident.

Sadly, the media has its own agenda. You'll never get the full picture from either side.

It is possible that the track record of shooting anyone near a police officer makes one reluctant to stop.

I don'the think the "nothing to hide, nothing to fear" rhetoric applies in a region where you can be shot dead while lying on the floor, pinned down by other police.

What happens in the UK for failures to stop? Are ARVs automatically deployed for all failures to stop simply because a worst case scenario must be assumed?

Do drivers in the uk regularly carry fire arms?

Do drivers in america?

The difference in answers should point you towards the difference in response.

Whats funny is you routinely bleat on about your psychological skill yet you seem incapable of understanding the mind set of people in differnt situations
