Copying all files to new HDD

Morning,
Just bought a Western digital caviar 1TB hard drive to replace my nearly full samsung 500GB HD
As i had problems in the past losing game data (probably my fault) i am thinking of copying all files from old to new HDD,removing my old HD and just renaming my new drive so my downloads are still going to the same place,does this sound like a good plan,i was thinking of just using windows to copy across(about 400gb)or is there an easier way
The drives are just storage only,my OS is on a 64gb SSD

Yeh just copy it all across and then using disk management give it the same drive letter as the old drive as long as you kept all the folders the same on the new drive it should all just work like normal.
