Core 2 Duo E7200 - Next Budget Overclocking Supremo?

4Ghz out of an £80 chip - how is that not good? If these are just cut down Wolfdales then these are indeed an excellent buy - will certainly consider it when I build next month!

Just read that review - 3.9Ghz stable at 1.4V - wow - that is my new chip - I think you need to realign your expectations because that is awesome performance, especially considering it comes with a 9.5x multi - basically it's an 8500 Wolfdale for half the price! :)

Edit: was a little shocked at the Vdroop - is -0.05 about normal these days?

Yeah disappointing with ocuk really. Plenty of other etailers showing stock now so where has your stock gone Gibbo?

My credit card is sat here waiting to order and my fingers are twitching!

at last, a CPU i could justify buying to replace my e2180 @3.2ghz for a PC that is used for 70% internet 30% games. Always liked the idea of a quad-core but know i wouldn't get my money's worth of an upgrade

Any word yet on the rest of the E7000 series line up?

A 9.5 multi is an interesting starting point, and 7200 implies the series will go up not down. This series could get very tasty!

Indeed, we could have a 2.9GHz stock version... 11x multi on a 45nm CPU would be wonderful, especially given that by that time the CPUs may clock even better given manufacturing tweaks and all.

Purely for reference purposes, the series would go like this going by current trends:

E7200 - 2.5GHz - 9.5x
E7300 - 2.6GHz - 10x
E7400 - 2.8GHz - 10.5x
E7500 - 2.9GHz - 11x

Got those numbers by looking at the E8000 series which increments model number by the half multi, and taking that half multiplier and multiplying it by the bus speed. Of course those're only theoretical chips, but we'll probably see most of them at some point or another.

YES! I have one in my hand, will let you know.

please do, this is just within my friends budget, if it overclocks nice its a buy :D

Ok question about the E7200 is it worth upgrading my E6420 too this chip? I know i can get a much higher freq outta it, well at least i **** b able too :) however what is concerning me is the fact it has 3mb of L2 whereas my chip has 4mb.

Is that going to make a big diff in performance? currently on use my rig for Internet and Gaming, however looking into getting some image editing software such as PaintShop Pro or Photoshop. Most likely get PaintShop Pro as Photoshop costs a bomb lol
