Core 2 duo vs Core 2 Duo mobile

Yes i have just read the email and replied to it. Didnt realise you guys were taking notice, but always nice to know. It is a shame that you do not have both a mobile and a desktop variant of the same board, but its an even bigger shame that you cannot sell them to individuals.

Its about £100. But remember when its $200 in the states, it normally means it will be £200 here. Sadly this always happens in regards to computer parts here.... we always get a raw deal.

There might be hope though. I goto Chicago to visit friends of the family over there and they have a big frys electronics warehouse/store nearby and a local Tiger Direct. I would like to get one of these boards but dont mind getting a few more if i know you guys will take them off my hands when i get back here. Seems a bit risky, but i will do it through members market. If you are interested, say on here and ill contact you guys when im next going over

@ Nixeh

Will have to get back to work to read your email lol.

Just to clarify I wasn't stalking the thread (not that you said as much), I'm just an enthusiast too who happens to work there. I did ask around and it appears that the only reason it would not be for sale would be one of support - it would not be fair on you if you had troubles, there would be no BIOS upgrades etc..

If you wish i could still pass your details to one of the sales guys and let them take it from there?

Ah cool. I have spoken to one of your representatives before at kontron because originally it was saying that the board was a desktop core2duo when it wasnt.

Its a shame about the lack of bios support, that would make me (and probably others) lean towards the foxconn or the portwell boards.

I wasnt making it out that it was a bad thing that you were looking at the forum threads, im glad as it sheds some light on an otherwise rare computer product.

Lets hope Kontron decides to get into selling Mini-ITX boards more frequently, but with bios support, you would have me as a customer for sure.

**EDIT** I have also added a thread to the product suggestion forum putting forward a few Mini-ITX boards which hopefully overclockers will try and get on their product listing. If you are interested in these boards it would be good if you also created a thread there so they know that there is the demand for these products, but sadly very little or no supply. **

Have you looked at MXM solutions? Liantec have a couple of nice mITX bords based on 9X5 chipsets, that support Core 2 Duo (and Core Duo) and allows the addition of an MXM daughter board.

I cant tell from your layout, is that a standard ATX PSU? have you looked at sff versions?

Also worth looking at Ibase, they have some nice solutions.

Finding the boards often isnt the problem, its the purchasing that can be difficult! Good luck with your project, keep us updated, i would be interested in knowing what your are putting it all in? Are you building the chassis yourself, or have you found an of the shelf product?

I am toying with the idea of building an in-car itx based media centre, so i have been looking at this a bit lately.

Yes it is a Full ATX PSU. Im currently running my system on a Seasonic 600wPSU and dont really want to get rid of it. I did look at other psu's but i was worried about how much they could actually power.

I will have the following in my PC:
Quad Core LGA 775
4GB Ram (2x2GB)
4 HDD's (750GB or 1TB Drives)
1 Slimline Slot Loading DVDRW-/+
Top of the Ranger Graphics Card (2900 XT 1gb or 8800GTX)
Dual 120 Rad (Intake) watercooling system for Graphics and CPU
Dual 60mm Fan (outtake) on rear of the case

This will all need to be powered by the 600w Seasonic.

MXM..... dont they only provide graphical solutions? And if so how good are they? I cant actually seeing them being a replacement for a top of the range gfx card. I will be running this PC on a 24" Dell 2405FPW and i do play games and use 3d applications so i need the graphics card.

I have been looking at the boards with an onboard mini-pci connector though aswell, might be able to put a nice wireless nic in there just encase.

Sadly yes, purchasing the boards is the tricky part. Though i work for a system builder in bristol and we have a contract with portwell as a supplier of some of our kit, so im enquiring about how much the board will be. And hopefully be able to buy one and see what theyre like

MxM is a type of expansion slot designed for graphics cards in Laptops.
You'd buy the previously suggest mobo with the MxM slot on it, and then buy a MxM card with whatever GPU/Memory config you want on it. These can range from bog standard Intel GMA affairs, to the new nVidia G80 based range with 512Mb of onboard memory.
Problem is finding the MxM's for sale anywhere. :p. Ive never seen them being sold anywhere. :p.

Was going to say i thought they were a bit of a rarity to buy... probably even more so then Mini-ITX boards

holy nuts... and you want to fit this inside a case smaller than the v300/sg01? This really is going to be one interesting build.

Yeah it will be. Have a look at the layout pics i linked in the early parts of this thread

Also, anyone know how much difference there is in performance between cpus with 1066 and 1333fsb?

Done a layout mockup earlier today in work. Will hopefully have the pics for you in a couple of hours. Looks like it will be pretty compact. About half the height of a Lian-Li v300 case (my current case)

Right here are the pictures i took earlier. Had a spare few minutes in work so though id mock up the rough layout to get some idea of real world size.

As you can see from the 2 pictures, it will be a small case with a small volume. The height of the case will be as tall as the psu is on its side

Just in between the fan and the mini-itx motherboard there will be enough room for the rest of the graphics card to overlap. But also enough room to mount a watercooling pump and maybe a reservoir if i decide to use one.

Any constructive criticism is welcome as always

Im not to sure as of yet. Thinking dual 60mm at the back as exhaust, maybe dual 80mm if it can fit, thats one thing i forgot to check today.

Btw sorry about the quality of the pics, took them on my mates phone

Could always have a 120mm fan on the top of the case as an exhaust... direcly over the motherboard? Obviously this may not be asthetically pleasing, but it would do a nice job...(although, if your going to use a cpu cooler that blows onto the board, this may cause trouble)

80 mm fans should fit no problem at the back, you may even be able to fit a 92mm in there

On the top could work as im watercooling, but i still think on the back might be better. The bigger the fan the better as i can run it very quietly.

I shall quickly do the mockup again now as im at work and see what sizes might work, though from that picture i might be able to put a 120 on the back. Im going to need some slight overhead so that the watercooling barbs can go over the top of the graphics card.
