Hi guys, new to the forum, first post!

I intend to get a E6300 and overclock it, my friend tells me i can save myself £30 buy getting the 6300 n just over clock it to the sped of the 6400, as it will do it comfortably.

Out of curiosity, what have you guys got out of yours with the stock/ air cooling? we rekon we could get about 2.8 comfortably and 3 at a push?

Thanks in advance

Benny.

mint, i expect im correct in assuming, that a aftermarket cooler would allow a little bit more oc potential, what would u recommend?

some fans come with the option off leaving the fan off, ninja does this, but if u gonna OC, it's well recomended to have the fan on it then :)

if u look around forum you will see that the ds3/ds4 gigabyte m/b seem to run grt with the 6300 &6400 chips, also the Geil ddr2 ram seems to b the ones to have with this board as well

I have my e6300 running at 500x7 = 3.5Ghz on air cooling.

using a lapped Scythe Ninja ;)

...and I've found that an e6300 runs a bit cooler than an e6400 - Even when it's overclocked to the same speed

15hours orthos stable @ 3.5Ghz.

Will be testing 3.6Ghz today. Load temp from my lapped tuniq tower is 51-53 degrees. I'm also using coollab liquid metal paste, which walks all over AS5!

Very easy rig to overclock, and much more stable to tweak than my old xp-m + bh5 rig. 3.6-3.7ghz on this baby for 24/7 should be easy peasy as long as my mobo doesn't crap out before 530 fsb, as temps arn't really an issue!

One thing though, if your looking at overclocking this high you need an ASUS P5B-D Wi-fi, strong ram, and a lapped tuniq/ninja with good thermal paste.

Screenine of 3.4Ghz, as i didn't take one of last nights 3.5Ghz successful run:

Is this pretty a pretty normal overclock for a e6300 with decent cooling?

Do most e6300 chips reach this sort of overclock?

Well mine got to 2.87GHz very easily (410FSB xx7), and that was on my P5W-DH (not known to be the best clockers on E6300/6400 chips).....dunno about 3.5GHz, mind, sounds mighty good ! This is approaching 100% overclock

Actual vcore is 1.44V, with it set in BIOS @ 1.475.

I got a BSOD earlier for no reason, but will play with 3.6ghz tonight

It seems so, as long as you have an ASUS P5B-D, capable ram, and of course excellent cooling.

Ye the P5W is very disappointing for the allendale chips. i think 100% overclock @3.72ghz might be tough unless i have good NB and SB chips. Fingers crossed :D
