Core i5 650 - 660 and 661 processor review

It's the 661 which is hitting 4.2Ghz, that's an i5, not an i3. I'm not doubting the i3's could get so high though, just pointing out. :)

Nice to see the Q6600 being trounced, might have to upgrade. :D

"Turbo just isn't as interesting with only two cores. With four cores you used to have to make a tradeoff between good 4 and 2 threaded performance, but Lynnfield fixed that. No one really debates single vs. dual core anymore. The single core turbo modes are great, but aren't worth the money. Pay attention to the i3s."

:D

just read that massive review and i am no longer interested in these :P

theyr only dual cores with hyper threading enabled :( intel are still playing with old style processors they need to get quad cores better now i thinks :)

The i3 530 is beating a Q6600 that has 4 cores and double the cache!

What are you talking about?

Hmmm I know what you mean but it's early days still . . . one really need to let the platform get a few BIOS tweaks and U.K pricing to be revealed before giving a thumbs up or thumbs down etc! :)

A quad-core chip released three years ago (January 2007) being beaten by modern Hyper-threaded Dual-Core is entirely unremarkable . . .

And it's not even a conclusive victory is it?

Note to Don's: This image is not a hotlink, please don't delete! :)

Always glad to see progress but I really hope Intel sell these things for like £65!

what am saying is the new I3's / I5's are ok and yes they do beat a Q6600 but only on one of the many graphs and its only by 1 point.......

now who's not been looking at the graphs right :P

personally i find them only better if you overclock them, and depending on the price yes they couldbequite amazing but still, nothing that will be uber amazing over a clock Q9550......

I7's atm still top of the game atm performance wise but we gotta wait for the reviews once the processors are released and tested in real life programs that people use every day which is more important to my self....

Thats them running at stock.

Fact is the OEM 750 is £135 so the i3's have to come in at a much lower price point.

These could simply be amazing bang for buck if they clock to 4.5ghz :D

The i3's willbe far cheaper than a Q9550 second hand these chips still go for 125+

C2D is dead tech now i3/i5 and i7 is where its at.

Looks like Intel have all budgets covered.

Yeah and the i3 530 has a 22% clock advantage already in the benches as well as being supported by faster memory etc . . .

I was expecting more, your obviously still living in the past . . .

The OEM I5 750 is now £140.99, the retail I5 750 is £158.99

Would you care to speculate on what you think the i3's will cost?

"Could" . . . . "if" . . . . how come your so excited from reading one review?

"bang for buck" we hope but the more excited you get the higher the launch price will be. I agree there is prospects here but without any clue on U.K pricing I suggest you stay calm if possible!
