Core i7 920 Temps?

You need slightly more Paste on fenrir from what iv'e been reading.

I'm having "issues" my fenrir/ i7 920 stock is about 37-40 idle and 57-60 under load.

Which atm gives me pretty much no headroom for oc.

Also no one can decide which way round the fenrir fan is better suited, sucking or blowing. They must have put a logo on the fan for a reason though, right?

Waiting for my week off to fiddle with it.

Youve got plenty of headroom, check out the OCers 4ghz bundle thread, which peaks at 80c, and is sold as a guaranteed working bundle - after querying this myself, they said these temps are normal under stress... Under normal pc use, you would not be sustaining such temps fror prolonged periods...

I too am running a Noctua over a D0 920. At 2.66GHz I'm getting core temps of 29-33C at idle, and 59-63C running Prime95 in CPU stress mode. I'm a little bit concerned. I followed the Noctua instructions for installing their thermal paste, but in truth I have no real idea how OCing will increase load temperatures.

I want to be able to run 3.6 - 3.8GHz, and stay close to the Intel design spec of 70C. I'll be taking a "slow & steady" approach to the overclock.
Just posting to say this mirrors my results. The case used is a Lian Li A05 which isn't the greatest at removing warm air. I am also using the 1100rpm adapter (black) on both noctua fans.

At 3.8-4Ghz max load temp (on hottest core) is 74C. Idle is 42C (on hottest core). This is with 1.2V on the CPU.

Very impressed with the chip and there's room for more.

Just to add my experience, as the more data for comparison, the better.
I have the OC bundle for the D0 at 3.8 Ghz, the Noctua cooler and the Antec 300.

I get an idle on a warm day of 44C, dropping to 40C as the days get cooler. I haven't prime tested the rig, but Everest stability testing at tops out ~78C. Long gaming sessions run around 55C.
Hope that helps someone.

These i7's are generally good up to 88c..

My temps can vary greatly depending on the weather, on normal days my loads are 82c at 4GHz, but on warmer days they peak out at 87c, this is with a TRUE..

85 is a little bit toasty, as they throttle at about 90c (or at least mine did).

I dunno mate I've had mine go higher without throttling, there is a TDP limit which the P6T doesn't allow you to disable so maybe that is what you triggered.
