Core i7 "Haswell-E" Engineering Sample Pictured

i am sounding like a noob but what advantages does the Haswell-E have over Haswell apart from DDR4 support, wich programs does it actually have a real performance effect on ?

Haswell -E has twice the amount of cores, Quad Channel Memory support with DDR4. Things like Video Encoding where those extra cores can be utilized, the Haswell -E will just destroy Haswell. Any programs that can utilize those cores are going to be much much faster on Haswell -E. By the time Haswell -E arrives we might see some game titles that could take advantage of all those extra cores, and again have the advantage.

So are you suggesting that at that point there might be games that can use 8 cores. There are some who would have it that that has already happened. :D

Hi, the only game l can think of is BF4 + the FX 8 core, would love to know the grand total of game's that use 8 core.:)

can anyone guess what the price will be like, and if im not wrong, there will be an x99 chipset, im guessing these will also support 4 way sli/cf in x16?

All I know is Intel are extremely smart, if their going to launch 8 core desktop CPU's late next year, than we can assume that late next year is when games will finally start to take advantage more cores.

2014, 8 Core Intel's + 20nm GPU's, awesome :)

I would really like to see that, but bear in mind they first started selling desktop 6 core i7's in Q1 2010 and we have yet to see any games fully utilize them.

I wouldn't put it down to Intel smartness, they've probably realised that the enthusiasts won't upgrade unless the next cpu offers a reason for doing so, a 100mhz bump won't do it.

If I have any money left once this is released then this could be on the cards to upgrade from my trusty AMD 1090T.

It won't go to waste, though, as I'll just upgrade my work machine from its current Q6600 :)

Next year will be a good year for making a new machine. Think it will be a complete overhaul for me

New case
Full water cooling loop
2/3 Maxwell cards in SLi
X99
32gb DDR4
Haswell-E I7

Can't wait!

hmmm, tempting. I definitely don't need 8 cores/16 threads (hence I'm still on an i5!), but just thinking of how many VMs I could run with that much CPU grunt and plenty ram/bandwidth to go with it. *drool*

Would this be worth setting money aside for just for gaming or should I just target Skylake?

Been tempted to upgrade after my GPUs got me a spot in the OcUK Firestrike Extreme top 10 but was let down by my CPU. :D

Confused so this 8 core intel cpu will be due late 2014 ?

With DDR4 around the corner, prices may be through the roof it took a good year or 2 for DDR3 to hit the normal prices and 2-3 more further for it to be cheaper then DDR2.

Still if DDR4 is required to take it up a notch its the best route forward for sure. Think ill hold off buying a totally new expensive new pc lol

Skylake will no doubt be excellent for gaming, and really low power as well. Be nice to own Intel's first true 8 core though, imagine the power ! :)
