Core i7 LAUNCH CONFIRMED: 16/11

im sure OcUK new not to put it up and the realease date, btu ofcourse had to drag click to the site, and get in those pre orders, like they ahve done before, with no show at 31st Oct.

competitors will be cheapre than OcUK so i dont see the problem, hopefully about £200 for the CPU

Are these just very high-end CPUs, with the mainstream stuff following next year? Will 775 stuff such as E8500s drop much after the i7 release and before Xmas?

It's just I was going to build a C2D 775 / DDR2 / P45 machine in August when i7 was far away but got sidetracked. Prices for my spec have mostly stayed the same, but now i7 is a bit closer I might wait if there's big price drops due

Yes, to all of that :)

Everyones hoping of a massive price cuts but dunno just dont see it happening..... it should cos its in with the new and the old, but then the P55 motherboards and Core2duo/Quad cpus for budget/mainstream dont come out till next October+

Dunno why intel would need to drop prices on the current lineup there still dirt cheap and selling mad, perhaps only the intel extreme cpus and the yorkfield range gotta price drop to let Corei7 take over that lineup but thats it.

For me it's waaaaay too much dosh to change platforms, and doubtless quite a few bugs flying around! I'm gonna personally wait for the mainstream platform to hit, lots of bugs ironed out and 99% of the performance for 50% of the cost :)

Isn't it because games aren't optimized for multiple threads or something?

Very few games are optimised in fact..... supreme commander and even then it was questionable at best if it really did even make a difference !

I think UT3 and few others had some nice boost with quad cores but nothing more so relevant, I think Farcry2 is perhaps the 1st game expected too see a nice difference and even then theres a ? next too it, could just be all hype.

Will just wait and see how it all goes :)

well all this i7 stuff seems to have people really confused, especially me. i have around £1,000 to spend on a bundle of CPU, RAM, MOBO for the best performance available.

the money will be spent @ the beginning of january just after my christmas wage (hoping for some sales) do you think even then the i7 will be an upgrade over say, Q9650, ASUS Rampage Extreme, 2x2GB Dominator 1800mhz ram?

Do you need DDR3 for these or are they backward compatible. And if the latter, does that kind of defeat the point of upgrading?

"Forget i7, the architecture is more server-orientated than Core2 was and won't show much benefit in games yet will cost a fortune."

Pinched from Vertigo1 :)

Am disapointed by the pre benchmarks it doesnt look like Corei7 is worth it just yet, perhaps a good Q9550 or Q9560.... but will wait for the proper benchies and all.

Perhaps as Vertigo suggest Corei7 is more server based and not aimed at gamers/and general users, maybe in that case the AMD is worth waiting around for !
