Cornwall

St Ives is a good place, got really nice beaches. was amazing when i went in late April but was quite chavvy at night when i was there.(must be the arcade on the harbour)

the roseland is a nice area to, look for st mawes and portscatho on a map, 2 nice beaches called carne beach and Pendower (they are 1 when the tide is out) another place to see is the minack theatre, if you can get tickets to see somthing while you are here its worth seeing somthing there. try to avoid newquay, chav central, packed, and basically hyped for no reason.

Hows about staying close to a close beach and a stunning view? Is this for family or more a young people holiday?

this man knows 100% what he is talking about, I was actually going to reply to this thread and reccomend my home village where I was born and bred but I declined, I'd rather people found it for themselves.

my exact thought as well, roseland is a great area, especially the further towards the point you go.

Minack, was there earlier today, well fishing and swimming that is, lovly beach just below the minack, and 2 coves over to the left is a nudist beach ;)
(also, dont bother paying for minack, just walk round the bottom of the cliff and climb up over the back wall :P )

best advice, aviod newquay for above reasons, stay away from camborne/pool/redruth, also, if you see any signs for Treneere or Gwavas, then run, run for your life!

Perranporth is nice, stayed there for a week about 2 years ago.

St. Ives is also nice but usually packed (and avoid eating out here, food is pretty bad :p). Another place to look out for is Sennen Cove, just before Land's End. And I'll put my vote for avoiding Newquay, reason as stated by poosemon :)

BEACHES

Perranporth beach

Perranporth is a horrible place, for the love of god do not go there.
If you want beaches, go to Newquay, the beaches are nicer and there aren't as many chavs

Cornwall is a nice place to go as long as you dont enjoy driving!!

All the roads where designed and built by a drunk monkey :D

Main roads that get so narrow in parts you have to stop for oncoming traffic and roads that just stop, in the middle of nowhere!

This is true. The further West you go the smaller the roads, often barely enough for a single vehicle. My gf refuses to drive down there at all. I on the otherhand absolutely love driving down there. I find All the wriggling around tiny roads quite fun and it makes driving around interesting.

Portowam beach

Do you mean Porthtowan? If so I can second that as being a great beach, there is a really good bar there called The Blue Bar, they have live bands playing some nights.
