Correct me if I am wrong?

In situations where SLI works, and you don't run into the limits of the VRAM on the 970s - yes, the 970s will beat a 980Ti on maximum and average FPS.

In games where SLI doesn't work, or if you need more than 3.5GB of VRAM - no, the 980Ti will be faster on maximum and average FPS.

EDIT - This review pits a 980Ti against 970SLI in some of the graphs if you want to see figures for how close they are.

The reason I ask is because I already have a 970. So I thought getting another one in SLI would be a lot cheaper than the 980Ti and would be faster or at least on par with it.

Correct.

As long as the games you play have good SLI profiles.

It would be a lot cheaper for me as I already have a 970. I could get another for £280. It would be cheaper than over £600 for a 980Ti

Do you see what I mean? That is why I am asking the question :)

Well what are 970s going for second hand? Say you get £200
You'd need just over £300 to get a ti

TBH man I don't think you'd be going wrong with either option. I only changed mainly due to higher minimums (and extra vram), and was gaming on a 4k panel at the time! Planned on 2 but now down to 1440p I really only need the one card :)

Get a 980Ti you'll have better minimums which means smoother gameplay! Also you get more reliable performance because in games where there isnt SLI profiles or poor scaling the 980Ti will win everytime and when you overclock your 980Ti it will be most likely better than a 970 setup!

Sell the 970 and get a Ti. You can get a decent Ti for £529 and you wont be reliant on profiles or sli working well. You will also have plenty of vram to play with meaning you could add another in a year maybe and still be ok. Finally, minimum framerates will be much better which is always more noticable than higher framerates
