Corsa 2001+ Model (Help)

I've had two Corsa C's. One a 1.0 Club and the other a 1.2 SXi. As has been said by someone else - I had to economise and both were cheap to buy, newish and had manuf warranty. Both are low tax and insurnace, cheap dealer service (£99 inc MOT at my local dealer atm) and good mpg.

Don't expect a thrilling ride or fantastic build quality cause they don't have either. Both were reliable and had nothing go wrong (with the exception of the CD player in the SXi - changed under warranty).

If you are on a tight budget then fair enough... but if you can stretch to any of the ones Fox mentioned the I would. I only did upto 5000 miles a year and as such didn't spend much time in either of them. If you are going to be in your car for a while then get something that you will at least enjoy owning.

No, not fair enough. At every budget, from £1 to £10000, there are better cars than the Corsa.

Everyone's entitled to an opinion and the guy has asked for it. You've had your go now stop forcing yours onto other people.

Oh do shut up. I'm as entitled to my opinion as you are. You are implying you need to 'stretch' to the superior alternatives and that, for a cheap car, the Corsa is an acceptable choice. It is my opinion that this is false - a Fiesta, for example, is no more expensive to run and no more expensive to buy.

Yes you are but my point is we've heard yours. Stop telling people to shut up and rubbishing other peoples opinions. Just cause you say something doesn't make it true. I'm not saying keep your opinion to yourself, just stop trying to force it onto other people. Post 7 in this thread got your point across well enough. The guy can now make up his own mind.

I had not previously in this thread expressed my opinion on YOUR opinion that a Corsa is an acceptable cheap car, though.

I am also not holding a gun, and no kittens are being threatened in the posting of this opinion, so there is no force involved.

They are not very good to drive - the steering is ultra light and is devoid of any feel and the ride is very crashy on any of the "sporty" versions like the SXi. The seats are also rock hard.

They seem to be fairly reliable and durable though. I can see why people who don't give a stuff about cars buy them.

Apart from the gear linkage having some sort of plastic involved and thus is prone to go. Repair at £100. Ive had both front springs break on mine as well so they have had to been replaced. I can't remember how much. My old Astra mark 2 was cheaper to run. :(

There are a lot better cars out there really.

Errrr

Simple fact:

You gave your opinion - I pretty much agreed saying there are better cars adding you might need to stretch a bit more to get but they are there.

I gave my opinion - you rubbish it:

Becuase I disagreed with it. Thats how discussions work.

You must be great fun down the pub - everyone says their thoughts on a subject around the table but once they've done that they've got to shut up and can't comment on other peoples thoughts?

It must be a silent evening after the first 5 minutes :p

It will be a cheap reliable economical car, why not :)

If you do pop up to Luton where every other car is a vauxhall and the market if flooded with them. Should get a good example.

you dont buy this type of car for handling. I had a Mk 6 Fiesta, and got one on loan xmas before last was terrible, seats uncomfortable, not go 3rd to 5th gear. I was glad to get my Focus back.

But of course when you go down the pub everyone moves away from you because you just rubbish their opinions.

Oh and there is a difference between making comments on opinions and saying "No, not fair enough."

I learnt to drive in a Corsa but haven't been in one since. As already said, there are better alternatives around. I would drive 3-4 different hatches and see which you like.

LOL, after having to teach in one for a few days I'd argue that the Fiesta is the car from hell just as strongly as you feel about the Corsa!! It was a truly awful car to drive, disconnected and flimsy. Custard bowl for a gearbox with a wooden spoon to stirr around untill it found a gear..... None of the pupils liked it either and they have only driven a Mini Cooper! ;)

If you really want one then go for it, but put it this way. I got a 1.4 twinport 07 plate corsa for a courtest car when mine was in getting repaired, I was glad to get my 7 year old 1.4 306 back as it felt like an improvement.

Clutch - Far too light, you didnt know when the thing got a bite until th car jerked off

Accelrator - Reasonable power, a lot faster than mine was

Handlng - In short, it didnt. I used to on purpose go around a roundabout too fast to laugh at the body roll on the car, felt like jelly. The steering was way too light, itactually removed all feedback from the road to the point it gave you no confidence to throw it around at all. The steering wheel was very big and fat, you felt liek you were captaining a ship rather than driving.

Seats - Crippling, i was in and out of that car as fast as possible, very uncomfortable to sit in for longer than 30 mins or so. Id dread any long trips in it.

Wheel controls - Fat and chunky and got in the way of driving. The two arrow things were annoying too, i out a CD in and presumed they were skip track, next thing im listening to some wifey worbeling along with some opera music.

Driving position - Not too bad, but it took me a long time to get it set up reasonable. I could either reach the pedals or the wheel depending on where the seat was, not both.

Honestly, drive one before you buy, as if i had one put in front of me for free id still rather buy my own car.

Hiya Everyone

Just a quick question (I think). I've been looking at some Corsa's recently, and they are growing on me (The looks mainly). Was just wondering, is there anything, anything at all that would deter you from purchasing one or even telling a potential buyer what they should be wary of?

Many Thankies

Larnica :D

If you bought one to drive, then you would become that scum of mankind - A Corsa Driver!

They all do the same things, sit on the inside lane doing 59 MPH, causing lorries to overtake them 1MPH faster, so they go on for miles. Or they sit in the outside lane at 71MPH, overtake lorries for miles, then don't pull in with a long line of traffic behind. Then there's all sorts of signalling defficiencies, which can prove rather dangerous/fruity.

Bleh, awful image really. I would never by a Corsa, it's really a girl's car, as advertised by Ruby Wax showing how much shopping you can fit in the boot. :D (Yes, this was the model before the one the OP is talking about, so flame away) :p

There is a longlost thread on here somewhere posted by myself when I had a brand spanking new '06 1.2 SXi courtesy car. I agree 100% with all of your comments bar the speed bit. The car I had was totally devoid of any power whatsoever.

Horrible, horrible cars! Buy a Clio / Fiesta / anything in this class but the Corsa or a Punto (which is much, much worse than the Corsa)

Again, Thanks for all your comments.

I was not exspecting such comments, but Ive defently been put in buying one (Although there is no harm in a test drive). For the same price as a 1.2 SXI Corsa Ive noticed I can get a 1.4 Polo with half its miles, air con etc etc for the same price or under :D

Thanks

I resent that! :(

I owned a JDM 'Gen 4 lude before the Corsa. I couldn't afford to run that and own a house.

Priorites change. 3.5k on insurance is far too steep for me.
