Corsa Advice

But its fair to say the Corsa is not a very good car. There are, however, some better cars of its type for the same money.

So why bother? Its not as if people are suggesting he spends extra money to gain things which are of no value to him?

No, show me a review of the Corsa C that fits this..

Sod the press, you've got multiple experienced drivers who have driven them and can back it up. Nobody is quoting press reviews of the better cars (Fiesta) because we have experienced them too.

We're not a bunch of 18 year olds saying "its fine because I've never driven anything else and cant compare it to anything" or "its wicked innit, phat rims and sweet exhaust". Most people here are mature adults (I said most), who understand what makes a good car and have plenty to compare against.

If you dont want the advice, dont take it. Go to a Corsa forum and let them all tell you about the common problems and how wicked their rides are

Meh, it's cheap, it's a car. He's got his heart set on it so he should go buy! He will appreciate better cars when he's older too :D

No the Corsa in general is not a very good car, totally agree, but people are suggesting that the Corsa is a total no-go for him, and suggesting generalised cars (i.e. no specific models) without any consideration of specifics..

The 1.4 SRi has a good engine, is 10.5 seconds to 60, looks nice from the outside (subjective, but is noted by many), has sporting pretentions (SRi suspension, styling).. At least give the guy some specific recommendations, with a balanced reason where the choice is better/worse etc, and let him make his mind up based on that.

Go back it up then... Every man and his dog are experienced drivers (me too!), But there is no automatic correlation between experienced drivers and their ability to subjectively review a car.. Or most journo's must be very inexperienced drivers to come to the conclusions they do sometimes, hell they probably don't have licences by how much they differ to the reviews on here.

With the sensationalistic sentence we are talking about, that would not be considered 'mature' from anyones point of view.

How many times does the word "Fiesta" need to be mentioned to become a specific suggestion?

Something like this would really set off his basball cap

On a more serious note, something like this if he can get the insurance

Or more likely, something like this

Think they're referring to the fact it's an MP3 edition - looks like a reasonable car and not a bad spec

MP3 edition - so does that mean the horn plays a tune, the exhaust can dynamically change in size to adjust pitch, or it just has a cd player that can play mp3 cds? :p

I bought a '56 plate Corsa 1.2 about 18 months and apart from a couple of issues have been quite happy with it.

First thing is it's quite solid compared to the Punto it replaced. I never felt entirely safe in the Punto, always seemed a bit lightweight particularly at the front end. The Corsa has a bit of weight to it and at least to me seems it would offer a bit more protection in a crash. I have a feeling the Punto would crumple like a tin can.

This does come at a cost in fuel consumption though - probably 30 MPG round town if I'm lucky.

A couple of other caveats too. Beware of the dodgy handbrake mechanism as I discovered a few days after purchase and hadn't figured how to park in gear with the Easytronic gearbox. Handbrake sprang off and ran back into a neighbours fence.

In mine, the electrics can be heavy on the battery, without a decent charging run once or twice a week I have found the battery going too flat to crank the engine. (Garage says everything charging okay).

Finally and very, very, sad I do like the Corsa engine sound. It has a nice purring rumble at certain speeds and a good GM "whine" at times too!

Ive been driving a Corso C 1.2 SXI for 2 years, it was my first car and to be fair i thought it was amazing for the first couple of months. After I got over the whole im able to drive excitement though i realised it wasnt that great a car. The seats arnte very comfortable for anything but short journeys, i find the dont offer much support at all, you could dteer the car by blowing on the steering wheel feels like it isnt even connected to anything, its only 3 years old and parts of the dash are rattling, steering rack has failed twice in 2 years £1000 to replace (luckily the car still had warranty), gearbox is awful very very clunky.
