Hi all,

I have an Asus A8R32-MVP deluxe motherboard and had been using the Corsair 2gb DDR XMS3200C2PT TwinX (2x1GB) CAS2 (MY-079-CS) for a couple of months fine. Then windows XP will not load. After some swapping parts with other computers I found that 1 stick of Ram would stop windows xp from loading and I tried it in 5 other computer with the same result. Anyway I believed it was faulty as I could use other Ram and my computer would act normal.

So I sent it back to overclockers but they say its fine? Does anyone have any other ideas why the the ram (just one piece) will stop the computer running? Cant see how it can be anything else :(

Yeah, me too. Just Overclockers said its fine and returned it. Would have liked to known what tests they did to determine whethere it was faulty or not. Its sitting here unusable and Ive already been without it for afew weeks now

If you boot with one stick only and one will do that and one wont using the same slot then in my experience then that stick is duff , i have had the same thing with that ram and i had a stick of redline that did the same

Thanks for your reply.

Dont really know what to do because Overclockers said its fine and returned it. Do you know how they would have tested it to determine whether it was faulty?

What do you suggest I do?

I would email them on there tech support and explain what you have found or if you are local call in the shop but they dont test while you wait as they are usually busy , i think they probably plug them into a test rig and see if it boots

I have exactly the same problem, just bought 2 gig of this ram and the machine wont boot! If it does then Windows just hangs and crashes and i have to turn it off or reboot!

There is only one possible answer then - the legendery ocuk customer service - quite simply one stick is knackered nd the other one isn't. If you've tried it in other systems and had the same results then it's certain. Don't accept their answer - they probably haven't even tested it.

Ok so i managed to get the ram to boot and carried out a memtest for 3 hours + (gave up in the end and escaped, how many does it do??) with 5 tests and all passed.
Now this memory is set to 3-3-3-8 timings as standard even though theyre supposed to be CAS 2. Went into Bios to change these timings to the same ones i had my 1gb running at (with no problems at all) which is 2-3-3-6, rebooted and nothing again!

Is the 2GB XMS3200C2PT TwinX (2x1GB) capable of running at 2-3-3-6? From looking at the website the CAS 3 does 3-3-3-8 so why are the specs all wrong?

This is stupid. Cant even test it because it wont load on any computers. I tried some university ones today and still nothing. that must be a total of 20+ computers now (all compatible with the dual ram) Overclockers must have some amazing computer to test this in, if indeed that was the case.

Anyway, thanks for your help :)

Ive managed to get the RAM running at 2.5-3-3-6 by upping the ddr voltage to 2.7 but daren't not go any higher as i don't know what this is doing, its strange however that when the ram is working then i swap over the RAM into the other slots i.e RAM A in slot 1 and RAM B slot 2 then RAM A in slot 2 and RAM B in slot 1 it doesnt want to work.

If i can get them working at 2.5-3-3-6 without any hassle then ill be fine.

Yeah thanks all for your help

My DDR version says 7.1 btw

Cheers Kris

Hi , which motherboard are you running on and which bios as both can have an effect on memory timings , also are you running at ddr400

The motherboard is the Asus A8V Deluxe with bios version 1017.002 Dated 14/11/2005, the memory is running at 200Mhz once i get it working.

Hi , i had that mobo and cant remember which slots they recommend but didnt have any memory issues that i remember. are you trying to run at 1T or 2T command rate

Hi andy, Its running at 2T and doesnt like 2.5-3-3-6 at all. Does it matter which Stick goes into the first slot cause they dont like being swapped around!
For dual channel mode they should go into the 1st and 3rd slots (blue in colour) and my other 1gb corsair works perfect everytime and runs at 2-3-3-6 no worries but these are very tempremental :(

@Rosicky If overclockers don't take it back then contact Corsair direct (link to an online RMA form on that page):

@Jukesy Make sure you keep the voltage at 2.7 or above and your absolutely certain the other settings are correct.
