CORSAIR HYDRO H70 CPU COOLER - IN STOCK (BENCHMARKS INSIDE)

u compared the 2 using 2 different types of fans

Hi there, basically I used the new fans that come with the H70 because they were 2000rpm my other fans there are only 1600rpm. Those temps you can see in the video are the corsair fans also running at 1600rpm.

The amount of air pressure they produce at 2000rpm is shockingly good but its a shame about the very high noise level that comes with it,

I cant honestly see anyone being able to put up with the noise levels at 2000rpm????

I did have to laugh at the cat though, it was like WTF is this thing getting near me lol.

lol she didnt seem too fazed by it all

Oh, forgot to mention, I'm using the paste that came already applied to the heatsink. Is it worth removing this and using some MX-3?

I used MX-3 on my H50 and I didn`t notice any difference what so ever, the stock paste seems very good.

Infact my best temperatures achieved was with the stock paste:)

Ah ok, i must have missed that bit, fair enough, static pressure should'nt be massivly different between them. So its a fair comparison then.

Just idle temps are not the best way really, but thats just me being picky lol. Still a nice review though, i did'nt think it was that thick, surprised me lol.

Same here, the stock paste turned out to be better than other pastes I tried so it's not worth changing. :)

@danielanthony

I like how you have managed to get the voltage down on your overclock :)
What motherboard are you using?

I just watched your review, you cat wasn't excited at all by the H70 :)

I got all the settings from this forum post:
http://www.overclock.net/intel-motherboards/662236-asus-p6x58d-premium-e-thread-16.html#post8435147

Its specific to my P6X58D-E motherboard but you might have some luck too. I just put in all the settings they suggested for my board and CPU and I hit 4.2Ghz 1st time. There's settings for 4.4Ghz but I don't want temps in the high 80's again!

After seeing ur vcore for 4.2, i had to up my multi by 1 just to see lol, currently testing via F@h, as it needs to be stable for that.

But your gonna hate me if i tell you the temps :p

Nah nice clock mate, and your temps are spot on really.

Im guessing you didnt try the stock fans then? Also how quiet is the pump, my old h50 did whine a little, im guessing the supplied fans are 3pin connectors also so I could put on my fan controller if req?

Thanks

The pump is silent on the H70 no noise at all, my H50 used to hum a bit as well, didnt look at the fan connectors that came with the unit but I think they are switchable so you can run 2 fan speeds from them.

I am running the 2 Vipers on the Akasa Pwm splitter that Overclockers sell so the speeds of the Vipers are controlled by the motherboard ( install & forget :))

Anyone tried fitting this is a fortress ft02 yet?

It all fits perfectly in an FT02 case I posted some photos at the start of the thread.

I am using the stock paste as well & the old mount from the H50 on the I7 processor, made it quicker & easier to install.

As I already had the Vipers didnt see much point using the stock fans that came with the unit.

Hope this helps?

Cheers

Do you have to change the back plate for AM3? Or can i just use my stock back plate that came with the motherboard?

I ran the IntelBurnTest on Max 5 times to give a fair example:

I have mine installed the same way, and in the same case, as roman59.

I was getting up to 89c with my H50 with the same fans.

I'll have my H70 tommorrow and am hopeful of similar results.

I ran the same stress test as you did about 30 minutes ago with my CPU at 4.15ghz using H50 in push pull with Vipers. Acutally 4 vipers on the roof of my case. All running at max rpm once the cpu got to 70. Realtemp GT shows all cores on my 980x maxing at 74,73,70,72. So almost 25 degrees to spare before throttling. Add 10 degrees to my temps if testing with Coretemp as you did (Coretemps TJMax is always 10 degree higher then RealTemps). So in comparison to your test my temps were 84,83,80,82 with a H50. I'm hoping the H70 will drop them by at least 7 or 8 degrees. I also have an ECO 240 coming next week, so will be an interesting comparison.

I thought Intel burn test needs to be run with 8 threads and not set to auto as auto only runs 4 threads

I did a Prime95 test with 8 threads this morning and got the temps maxing at 80c after about 28 minutes. Again, this was better than the results I got with the H50 as that maxed in the high 80s low 90s and I was thinking about moving my overclock down to 4Ghz.

Are these with 2 viper fans or with 2 x corsair stock fans ?

That's pretty good. I remember ocuk used to tell us that anything under 85C for i7 will be fine. You can use 4Ghz in summer and save that 4.2Ghz in winter. Have you try 2 x viper fans with this excellent cable here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-031-AK&groupid=701&catid=48&subcat=153 and it controlled both viper fans with same speed (PWM) using motherboard cpu header with PWM control.

I did this with Viper fans, I've never plugged in any of the fans Corsair have supplied!

I don't think that cable will work as the Vipers have 4 pin connections and the cable in your link has three pin connections only..?

Yes the viper fans will work this splitter cable as I have one myself and other ocuk users had it too. it will fit anyway! trust me! or you can ask ocuk and they will tell you it does fit.
