I'm sure they, the chocolate companies, at some point released a statement saying it was either reduce size to retain reasonable pricing or they would have had to increase the price a lot. That was their reasoning.

Been going on for years.

Bags of crisps is the obvious one. Most single packs are less than 20g now. For example, 'Monster Munch', single bags were nearly 30g in the late 80's

Opened the quality street tin yesterday at moms. Now we all know the tin has been getting smaller for ages. But honestly the tin was only about half full as well. I couldn't believe how much empty space was in it.

Trains, used to be you could buy a monthly season ticket and use it to take the train for a month; these days you're lucky if a monthly season ticket will get you 2 whole weeks!

They need to justify the cost some how by adding empty space so the product looks bigger when in fact the contents is smaller.
