Cost of Living - Shrinkflation is speeding up at an alarming rate

Now you're sounding like piers morgan, hes obsessed with avocados and "bee rights" funny that he (and you it seems) don't appear to be too concerned with pigs being put into gas chambers or cows forced into a box and violently killed though....

Then you are missing Piers' point.

He's not obsessed with bee rights whilst accepting other animals being killed, he's pointing out the hypocrisy of some vegans who seem to only be concerned with certain creatures being used by humans whilst ignoring other creatures being killed to allow vegan food to be manufactured.

The amount of creatures that will be killed during arable/veg/fruit production is larger than you think through direct killing by machinery to produce said foods as well as displacement of entire ecosystems to make way for crops.

Because vegans aren't directly eating those creatures, they seem to think that's enough to absolve them of any responsibility of killing them whilst labelling meat eaters as monsters... It's blatant hypocrisy.

TLDR: Vegans are hypocrites.

How can it be hypocrisy when you are guessing what they think?

Its not a case of "what I think" its whats true that matters... I provided a citation, maybe have a look through it.

In fact the maths might help you understand, We currently feed 8 Billion humans with 80 Billion land animals.... which do you think will use more crops.

How can it be hypocrisy when you are guessing what they think?

Exactly, vegans are more than aware of the "crop deaths" its a common and terrible argument for reasons which i've already stated.

Been a few months since we had this one, I'd completely forgotten about your pity party last time :D

Caring about animal abuse is a "pity party"

I guess you don't care about pigs being tortured then, maybe watch the footage yourself then you might be able to empathize.

Piers bees - an example for the woke thread - take an extreme divisive confrontational view , for his interview style - more pious than the pope.
bees are being shipped around to pollinate lots of crops, like orchards,
the new UK farm payments for public good, and promotion of lay/wild field areas should help, not sure where we stand on more noxious pesticides post brexit and hive death syndrome.

Butter prices now dropping , so stockpiling is out, and maybe , all companies will not resize.

Probably won't be time to drop the price - Brexit will be raising it in Oct - remember that when you vote tomorrow
the gift that keeps on giving.
The new Border Operating Model will require:

  • All businesses importing fresh or frozen meat, dairy and other goods to provide an export health certificate alongside the consignment of goods entering the UK
  • All export health certificates must be signed in person by a vet at point of departure
  • Every consignment of goods in the medium and high-risk categories entering the UK will face a new ‘border tax’ up to £41 per consignment whether or not they are to be inspected
  • All goods in medium and high-risk categories will be subject to documentary checks, largely negating the promises around light touch physical inspection
...
“When plans to bring in controls starting from July 2022 were cancelled, we were promised a fundamentally new approach to how the UK would manage its border, that is not what this proposal is. None of the fundamental problems have been solved and business have nowhere near enough time to prepare.

“Groupage, which is the only cost-effective way to move smaller volumes of food goods into food retail, restaurants and more, will no longer be workable under the new regulations so we can expect a collapse in the volume of speciality products coming into the UK. Overall, exporting products such as meat and dairy from the EU into the UK will be more expensive, slower and more complicated.”

He added: “We have to expect that many EU based food exporters will take one look at these proposals and decide to cease supplying UK customers. As the recent tomato shortages have shown, food suppliers have plenty of options to sell elsewhere. Bringing in this scheme, in this form, at this pace, at a time of spiralling food price inflation and ongoing supply shortages is a really bad idea.”

I wonder if anyone has tracked the prices of cheddar cheese/mature cheddar cheese/extra mature cheddar cheese as the input costs of the milk have changed over time; there is a lag factor with the mature and extra mature cheddars which would make production costs higher or lower relative to the bog standard cheddars.

Talking about inflation for a second, I don't understand how the government and media arrive at the small percentages: this has risen by 12%, that has risen by 20%. All I am seeing is 50%, 60% and more.
Talke Tesco two pack steaks, for example. I remember the price of those, because they are expensive at the best of times. They used to be £8 a pack. Now they are £12.35. Even my ridiculous maths abilities says that's not 12%.

Wholesale prices might be dropping, but it remains to be seen if that is passed on to the customer. Firms are going to like the extra profit.

You make that statement as if firms are making extra profit, but this is not true at all, and is represented as such in the financial statements of various consumer goods companies and supermarkets.

I don't understand how the government and media arrive at the small percentages:
mix of products in the shopping basket including some whose price hasn't risen much but the poorer folks won't be buying - cake 23%

interesting comparison tool

chinese takeaway only 10% increase - I need to eat more ultra processed/HSFF

In the food and drink section, lowest increase I've seen is 1% for Cream liqueur. Not much food gone up less than 10%.

Has peanut butter always been so expensive? I fancied some so I went to buy a normal sized jar of sun Pat and it was 4 bloody quid!

Went for a £1.15 savers version instead.

I've not often got peanut butter, and when I have its been Aldi's version. At that rate they will be putting security tags on the sun pat like they did with Lurpak in some shops.

I think you get wise as to where to shop, so coffee is defiantly B&m under 4 quid for large Nescafe, i pass Wadebridge Tesco on the way to work so i check out the cc deals , i even came across one of those big fruit boxes at lidl for £1.50 but tbh i left it for a family who probably could use it more than me as i am a vegan who isn't too keen on fruit
