Cost of Living - Shrinkflation is speeding up at an alarming rate

many frozen veg become mushy when cooked.

Only decent frozen veg are peas and broad beans.
agree leastaways cauli/brocoli don't work even when steamed, probably need to have been blanched before freezing too.

shrinked product overheads Many products available in bigger quantities - juice/2L, cheese, milk, multi-packs, to reduce packaging overheads,
consumer needs to develop budgetting/cooking skills their predecessors had - epitomized by hello-fresh/gastro BS with small quantities.

It's worth pointing out these are back of the envelope maths

I doesn't take into account the vast amounts of grazing land is used for grazing because it unsuitable for crops, so where would the new land needed for crops come from in order to hit demand? It won't be grazing land that's not always suitable.

It doesn't consider land for crops is significantly more environmentally harmful to the ecosystem than grazing land. There is significantly more flora and fauna in land used by cattle than by crop. Biodiversity has an overwhelming advantage in grazing fields.

It also blissfully ignores the slaughter innocent insects and wildlife to create crop land, mass deforestation, vegans love their avocados which is one of the more environmentally harmful food items in our stores more so than many farm animals.

Everything isn't as black and white as your campaign groups like to make out, as always a balanced approach is needed.

lol, We clear land and deforest the amazon for animal agriculture and their feed, not to grow some veg.

Most crops grown are to feed the 80 billion land animals we raise and kill, maybe fact check stuff you hear from people like joe rogan.

So in other words, if you're concerned with "innocent insects and wildlife" you should still be vegan.

Depends on the situation. I don't mind, peas, sweatcorn and carrots they are my go to, come out find when boiled, frozen onions are good in a spag bog, but are soggy when frying. I do buy frozen spinich but it taste different to fresh ill eat it with some spices though.

Frozen pepers are the worst though, I tried them once never again I have never had such a slimy disgusting thing before, only fresh crunchy ones now!

Yes you do

A few years earlier, government officials in Mexico estimated that Michoacán was losing between 15,000 and 20,000 acres of forest each year — a third or more of the region’s total deforestation — to avocado cultivation.

Sure animals may also have an impact but to deny the impact of human cultivation anywhere whether animal or plant. Your agument about the majority of crops being used to feed animals is only partly correct. Around 62% of cereal crops are used as animal feed however there are significantly more crops produced other than cereal crops, even more so when you factor in all those it's not a majority.

I don't watch Joe Rogan or any of those people I don't care about them, nice try though.

And no I wont be vegan I like meat too much and it tastes good nothing beats a nice juicy steak supplemented with some nice vegan asparagus and mushrooms.

Frankly while some arguments vegans make are good, they are also very hypocritical.

Migratory bees are used and exploited to grow vasts amount of "vegan" food, sure it can be argued it's the lesser of two evils, but it's still exploitation nethertheless.

Unless someone goes off grid and grows everything themselves there's no control on the impact. Likewise, my point about there being less flora and faunda in croplands also stands, with insects actively being killed off due to being pests. Sure dolly the sheep hasn't been killed but all the insects have.

Until meat can be grown in a lab you wont change the world. (I do think this will happen one day)

Why grow it in a lab, we have a good system now?!?

Now you're sounding like piers morgan, hes obsessed with avocados and "bee rights" funny that he (and you it seems) don't appear to be too concerned with pigs being put into gas chambers or cows forced into a box and violently killed though....

I've heard about them being shipped in for some almond milk apparently, but no doubt far more will be killed in the honey industry.

Veganism isn't perfect for sure but its certainly a reduction in suffering.

I used links from vegan websites and you resort to insulting me.

Doesn't surprise me you vegans are all the same.

Enjoy your life.

I'll enjoy my delicious meals.

Sadly its in the news again.

Sadly so, and will be for some time.

I don't think it's unjustified for luxury items tbh, as a society we've been living like kings for the last few decades. Where I worry is actual every day items like bread, milk, eggs etc. People can cut down on chocolate and energy drinks, but families still need to be fed.

the 'news' suggests abattoir pig abuses were pictures from 2021 - WTF delinquent not to release them to authorities immediately

Why if the product is the same? What difference does it make?
yes it won't be the same - in the same manner that eggs from our local farmers chickens taste better than Aldi standard rspca assured, or organic free range chicken tastes better,
consumer has to get used to being flexitarian with occasional high quality meat,
that said, people forget, or never knew, how protein used to taste, farmed salmon is the new normal etc.

Aldi baked beans. Was 420g Corale, now 410g Bramwells, and the 4 tins for X offer has been removed, and the 4 for X offer replaced the 4 packs that they had for as long as there has been an Aldi here (15+ years).

also at Aldi, when there was the egg shortage earlier this year there was one week where they only had golden yolk eggs that cost a bit more than the standard ones so I got them then. Since then I've continued to buy them as I like them better, especially for boiled eggs.
