Cost of MRI scan?

It was about £400 for a brain scan for me.

When I was a small boy, my older sister banged her head doing something silly that seemed like a good idea to her at the time. I forget what. Jumping off a roof, maybe. Nothing unusual at that age. Anyway, off to hospital to get her checked out just in case. The doctor looks at a scan of her head and tells our parents that it's OK, there's nothing there. Result! A doctor has confirmed what I always suspected - there's nothing in her head! She doesn't have a brain! Hahaha!

Younger siblings can be annoying gits.

After inquiring with the clinic they said they could send me for an MRI scan without the need to see a consultant and the cost in my case would be around 500, no need for an extra person to interpret the scan. They said my appointment would typically be within a week which is great news. :) Even if I have to pay for it out of my own pocket I'm happy.

The benefits of not going to Harley St! Hope it gives you that answers you are after.

Did she survive?

Since April I've had an Ultrasound, a CT scan and finally a few weeks ago an MRI which was from about waist up to neck, basically my abdomen area. All on NHS. A friend had a similar MRI with a private mob and the cost was £1700.

Ultrasound results were back in 4 days. CT scan results were back in 5 days and doc called me at home to come in and discuss them. MRI scan took 5 days also and basically confirmed what the CT showed which was Massive Hepatic Splenosis. So I wasn't anywhere near two weeks to wait for results although a fair amount of factors may influence that timescale depending on the individuals circumstances or location - your mileage may vary.

Think it was only a 2 week wait as it had to be sent off to a specialist neuro radiographer, other scans ive had i just got a letter saying all clear, no lesions in the brain or spine. Like you say, time to get results can vary. I know that if they spotted any lesions they would have been in touch a lot quicker.
The nice thing is, i have a CD with my MRI scans on it, looks funky.

Mrs S is an MRI radiographer and they are charging £450 per part in her hospital. The more parts done, the more cost.

Just being picky (as Mrs S would be if she was reading this) the radiographer will put you in the scanner and take the images, then a radiologist will report on the images back to the consultant / doc who referred you there in the first place.

If you are having it done in Aberdeen, can recommend the Albyn hospital.......one of the radiographers there is a great lady ;););)

can see a new thread coming up out of this......****** THE OFFICIAL OCUK FORUM MEMBERS INSIDES PICS ******

Really mate you want to take that down ... some of us can read those things.

Its been on my flickr account for ages & on several forums including this one before.
If you can find something that the "supposed top neuro radiographer" missed, then please point it out.
The animation is even better on the top down view, not as good on the side view. This was a contrast scan if memory serves me right. Cook for 20 mins, pump full of contrast then finish under the grill for another 20 mins.

Fixed for you.....;)

No worries.

I went in the other day as a 'Test Subject' as they are just installing a new scanner where Mrs S works.

Got shouted at by her for nearly nodding off. :D:D:D

I think you're missing the point. I am sure you are well chuffed that you have no remission or recurrence of MS?!?/NpPain (presuming here it is MS/NpPain as you mentioned lesions) and if so I am chuffed for you. However, my point is that is rather personal info you are slapping up on a public forum. If you really have no problems with that then knock yourself out however I find it rather strange.

There are times when even I am glad I live in the North West. :D

Whether it will be done in Lancaster, or I will have to go to Preston I don't know yet though, just depends on when the best time slots are I guess. £7 train ticket will be reimbursed by insurance anyway. :p

Never seen Lancaster MRI that busy plus it runs till 6pm think, unlike the CT scanner that's in constant use. The scan I posted was done at Euxton Hall near Chorley.
just wish Preston hospital was nearer the railway station.

As for posting my MRI, at a guess 99.9% of the forum members can't read an MRI scan, so I'm not fussed.

That shouldn't have been allowed imo, the fact you could afford the £80 gave you an unfair advantage over someone who couldn't, that's not what free health care for everyone is/should be about!

People should't be allowed to abuse/manipulate the system like that, if they are really that concerned then no one is stopping them from going fully private and if they can't afford that then join the queue like everyone else!
People shouldn't be allowed to jump NHS queues by effectively taking money away from the NHS and going private, that's simply selfish and immoral imho.

No doubt loads of semi-wealthy hypercondriac's have done this over the years and helped increase the waiting lists for lots of poor and vulnerable people who actually do need treatment
I'm surprised and angered that this behaviour is allowed, the NHS should be about health-care for ALL, money should absolutely not be allowed to give anyone an advantage!!

I am well under the official poverty line. I manage because I don't drink, don't smoke, don't go out much and don't have a car. At the time, I was worse off and I borrowed the £80.

Your description of me as one of these "semi-wealthy hypocondriac's" (sic) is merely a reflection of your own gibbering ignorance.

I'd also like you to explain why you think that not using NHS resources constitutes taking money away from the NHS and why you think that not using NHS resources increases the waiting list for NHS resources.

Money always gives an advantage. That's what it's for. It's a representation of ownership of resources and therefore a representation of power. I chose to assign what little spare money I had to repaying the £80 I borrowed rather than, for example, smoking and drinking it. Your semi-literate tirade is irrational and based on ignorance.

LOOOL What a fool CRAZY looks now :p
