Hi,
Was just driving through heavy rain, puddles ect. and my warning light has come on saying "engine overheat". the light came on when i came out of the shop back to the car, and the car wouldn't start only the lights worked.
Now the engine management light is still on and will need to be reset, What sort of cost am i looking at?
The car is a Fiesta ST, with a K&N 57I Induction kit fitted.

Are you missing something here? Like... finding and fixing the problem that caused it to come on?

well, at a guess i'd say it's the fact that i've altered the engine cooling by fitting the K&N 57I..... so i'm looking the get the light reset and i'm going to go back to the standard cooling.
Edit: that said, i don't know anyone else who've had the problem after fitting the K&N.

Engine management lights tend to go off themselves if the problem they are detecting goes away. If your confident its being caused by the induction kit then chances are it will go off after a couple of miles with the standard box.

However, I would be a little more worried, it seems odd that it came on after driving through a large puddle, if the K&N kit locates anything like the one in my Yaris did it had a habit of drinking up puddles and causing rather large damage so may be worth getting checked out.

With that in mind and to answer the origional question, it cost me about £15 last time I got a code read and cleared.

:p

I was thinking that - otherwise it will just come back on and you will be out of pocket!

The warning lights aren't there just to annoy us and be switched off :p

The air filter isnt part of the cooling system?

on the fiesta st cooling, it goes into the filter and the air passes over the top of the engine under the plastic engine cover.. by fitting the K&N there's no air passing over the engine in the orinal way just straight to the filter then the throttle body.
but i will ask the garage what else may have caused the problems.

It's a water cooled engine?

Yes, the engine is cooled by water passing through a cooling system, thats what your radiator and coolant is for. The air intake is air for the engines ignition system. You want that cold - but for ignition purposes, not cooling purposes.

If you are getting cooling system warning lights, there is probably another problem going on.

Given some of your replies, I retract my earlier post......... Take it to a garage and get it checked.

Did you not read the info provided by K&N when buying the kit on what it's purpose is or did you just buy it because it had "K&N" in the name and everyone uses it so must be bought?
