Costco Membership..

They sell branded high quality items and decent prices. Even if it is a little more expensive I still buy from there due to the fact that they have such a good refund policy.

Has anybody at your work got a card sara?

You are allowed to take someone in the store with you on your card, a guest if you like.

May be worth trying that option first?

I have had Costco membership for a few years now and you have to be really careful about what you buy. Some things are more expensive than the cheaper supermarkets but there are bargains. I buy sugar in bulk there for my baking as it is cheaper and easier for me to handle in large bags.

We bought our TV there some years ago, but the prices and guarnatees are not that keen any more.

Their returns policy is second to none. Just take anything back with the receipt and they will refund the money no questions asked.

The cafe is the best bit though. Giant hot dog and a bottomless drink for £1.50. Bargainous.

I got a membership to have a look around, the clientele and general squalor of the place left me less than impressed. I did buy a big 1.36KG bag of almonds for a good price compared to the likes of Holland and Barrett. Waiting at the checkouts behind rough looking people and their bulk cigarette purchases was a pain, as they are really not geared up for a high volume of customers. Your sense of scale literally changes when you enter the place and you realise how people get overweight easily with the sizes of things on offer. I almost came out the place with waddle.

can you only join makro if your a business/self employed?

Depends who you work for. I got my membership through Rolls-Royce. You can get a trade card is you are a company / self employed (I have a trade card now instead) and its cheaper than the individual card.
Its much cheaper than Makro (Which is the same price as the supermarkets if not more expensive - but great for sweets). Find someone with a card and then ask for them to take you around.

For 25 quid it's worth a try and hardly worth worrying if it don't pans out. I'm sure anyone can find enough discounted stuff to make up £25.

well personally I'm fairly biased because I indirectly work for them and my membership is paid for :p but as for bargains it really depends what you're looking for

there may be some items in Costco that are cheaper than Makro and vice versa.

I know when I used to go to Makro Croydon I thought it was a complete mess, so untidy, lights weren't on in areas so you couldn't see half the products but my parents have said they've really stepped it up a bit now. (I guess they had to with Costco opening down the road)

I have to say I love their pizza and all the gift sets they have at Christmas.
Oh and the bakery section....mmmmmmmmm nom nom!!

and as others have said there is still one in Gateshead.

You can add people to your card so they get a card and they pay £14 +VAT (think thats the price) or you can take I believe up to 4 guests in with you (well that's how many we've been told before) but obviously if they want to buy anything they have to use your membership card on the till. (don't worry doesnt cost anything extra!)

Last time I asked about their returns policy, you dont even need the receipt as its all on your account/membership details. Was a few years ago, an employee told me, they had one customer buy a pair of trainers. They even see him wear them coming back to Costco, soon after returned them. No questions asked.

But I've seen they've wised up a bit with the returns. I bought a Digi Camera once, took it on holiday when I got back I returned it. Valid reason though, night pictures were terrible.

Have to agree though sometimes the stuff isn't as cheap as the supermarkets and sometimes it is.

Batteries are cheap:D

EDIT: Bog roll, tissues, washing powder etc. Stuff you will always use and can buy in bulk, Costco is handy. Although because my gf thought I had ran out of toilet paper(even though I asked if she was sure as one Costco pack of bog roll lasts me a year.). What do I find in the boiler room. I now have a year and a half worth of bog roll and she's has gone back to Australia now.

I know they're seen as the devils work on here but the best value compared to shop prices I've ever seen at costco, makro or bookers is cartridge razor blades like mach 3/venus etc, usually 1/4 at most of the price
