I am no expert on cars or engines, but my genre when I first got interested in cars was the Ford Cosworth engines of the 1980's. I just love them to bits and there is something about them that makes ones panhandle get hot.

IS there anyone else who finds these engines, and the amount of tuning they can take, a fantastic bit of kit ?

Slightly OT, is that the Pug 206 they somehow managed to shoehorn that cossie lump into? Just wondering how they go about changing the 4th spark plug :D

I think ish posted his usual threads of absolute quality on that one. That was a fabulous motor and a lot of car for 10k. It looked the mutts nuts and the performance of a souped up Cossie inside would be muchos fun.

As for the 4th spark plug ? Pass. :D

whats the relative prices of getting a genuine 400bhp from a YB, an SR20det, an scooby boxer and a mitsubishi... and a toyota 2l 16v turbo

difficult to say, especially if you are factoring the cost of the engine as well.

400bhp reliable is a LOT for any of those engines. maybe an RB26DETT would be better for that much oomff

latest Mivec 4g63 will give you around 400/400 for under a grand.(EcuTek remap) :)

I couldnt speak for the rest of the engines for sure but you can tune the SR20DET for 400bhp relatively cheaply but you wouldnt be sure how long it would last. Of course if you tuned all the engines properly then it would cost a lot of money.

As a side note there are a couple of guys running SR20DETs around 400bhp on stock bottom ends using the GT3071R tubby and standard mods like full exhaust, tubular manifold, filter, FMIC, walbro fuel pump, cold plugs, boost controller, management, 720 injectors, cams with uprated springs oh and a z32 AFM.

I would think for it to be fair, you would have to all start at the 200bhp variant or at least as close as possible to it. Otherwise you could say use the FQ400 and not have to spend a penny :p

yea just been looking at the MY2006 C Spec 2.0 's from subaru, can give 360bhp for approx a grand of tuning i would have thought.

but the question is, how much will a Mivec 4g63, or a C spec 2.0 cost to begin with? im thinking a lot because they are so new, and not many wreckers around...

Seems to be a lot of outlay there, if you are spending that much, then a bottom end rebuild with forged rods and pistons, new bearings, oil pump is hardly a great expense. I assume the SR20 has a forged crank?

There are quite a few 400bhp+ cars running on sxoc that are regular drivers

Aye it has a forged crank. I dont think it ever needs to be uprated, Madtech in Sweden run an 800bhp SR20 on standard crank, block and valves IIRC.

yea possibly im getting caught up in some WHP vs flywheel numbers at the moment

i think 350-400whp is about the max u can realistically get from stock internals on an sr20 (no practical experience of anything near a turbo btw)
