Cosworth Engines.

Good engines and still very popular, but better engines are out there now.

I was chatting to the guy who runs Engine Advantages (I forget his name) and he told me the engine in the Focus RS was better in every way.

Oh I also forgot. The SR20 might be up to the power but the gearboxes arent, they pack in at about 350bhp as third gear usually strips

Problem is every time I see a Sapphire Cossie go past I can't help thinking that nowadays it is simply a rocket powered dustbin :(

Very heavy engine, and not especaily impressive in normaly aspirated form. Many newer engines better suited for a N/A application.

Huge power can be extracted from the turbocharged engine, but then again there are many 2.0 16v Turbo's that can produce simillar power.

I would think for it to be fair, you would have to all start at the 200bhp variant or at least as close as possible to it. Otherwise you could say use the FQ400 and not have to spend a penny :p

Ok

Old 6 bolt Vr4 4g63(around 200ish bhp) which is stronger than the Evo 1-3 engine + 20g/dawes/Evo injectors/chip-remap should do it. :D

hmm might be pushing that grand tho :o

I still have a spot for these, more so the Escort cossie's.

Maybe one day if me numbers come in :(

Same as, although I'm probably the only one that would spend a wedge of cash on a genuine RS500..... wanted one since I was a wee nipper

Cosworth GAA, dribble...

300zx gearbox fit in them? Those are good for big power.

Mazworx in the US do a z32 gearbox conversion but need the bell housing to machine it, so it matches up with their adaptor plate.

That picture looks more like a Ford Ka to me.....

Rocket powered dustbin they may well be, but, what a great rocket! :D

Wheres Ish when we need him?

Toyota/Lexus 1UZ-FE, please.

Stock cams, no porting, stock bottom end, 11psi and 455bhp at the wheels? Thank you!

The stock bottom end has been known to make almost 1000 bhp on mostly stock parts. With a completely stock assembly and compression ratio (10:1), the 1UZ has produced 600 bhp with 15 bs of boost.

WOOT.

lol thats probably because its a 4.0l V8!

And?

Still damn good engines.

Cheap, tunable, EXTREMELY overengineered from the factory and capable of making big power without too much outlay.

and what? i was just surprised because i havent seen many around/heard much about them, to discover from wiki that its a 4.0 V8!

how cheap can you get them, and how big is the engine?

Ahhh...Thought you were complaining because everyone else was quiting fours and sixes :)

You can pick up a Lexus LS400 for £300-500 (less if it's got a FUBAR dash...But you don't need the dash and it costs £1,200 to fix...), it will come with at least 250bhp out of the box.

Sell on the remnants of the Lexarse to recoup your money and make a few quid profit then purchase a Supra 'box and axle.

Then it's a case of transplanting the lot into something interesting ('79 Cressida, please) and having some fun.

The 1UZ-FE is a crazy engine. People have stuck them in mk1 MR2's, would be crazy in one of them. Also one added bonus, it ends up being lighter than putting a 3S-GTE in a mk1 MR2!

difficult to say, especially if you are factoring the cost of the engine as well.

400bhp reliable is a LOT for any of those engines. maybe an RB26DETT would be better for that much oomff

there are loads of 400+bhp yb's around. If it's built & mapped correctly it should do plenty of reliable mileage as well. There are more and more nicely specced 600+ bhp yb's appearing as well like this MAD one:-

Considering the yb is a very old design of engine based on an even older pinto it can still can be made to produce plenty of power. As standard it's very strong engine.

I do rate the newer jap engines as well though with the rb26 being my fav

Correction, There are is currently 2 people i know of that are putting them in but i havnt heard of a completed project yet, they have to make the car a wide body and shift the Struts and chassis rails out :D

And there is a Guy in the US putting a Cadillac Northstar engine in one aswell

You are right about the weight aswell
