Cosworth Engines.

there are loads of 400+bhp yb's around. If it's built & mapped correctly it should do plenty of reliable mileage as well. There are more and more nicely specced 600+ bhp yb's appearing as well like this MAD one:-

yar, but how much building are we talking about? not just sticking in big cams and exhaust and stuff im taking it?

Thing is though, the 1UZFE is all good and well up until about 280BHP (which isn't much over it's stock output).

It then becomes hillariously expensive to tune :D - unless you're a bit of a DIY'er who fancies their own home brew blowing, fnaar fnaar, then how the engine might take to it is an altogether different thing :p

People can eek silly powers out of them, but you should see the prices of the cams, rods and so on.

Lovely 6 bolt mains though, allows for 8000RPM on the bottom end totally standard - though this may void your warranty

Good engines and still very popular, but better engines are out there now.

I was chatting to the guy who runs Engine Advantages (I forget his name) and he told me the engine in the Focus RS was better in every way.
Except it's round the wrong way :D

Not sure what this is exactly, but I know it sounded very very nice.

A Cossie YB lol

Oh and
I do rate the newer jap engines as well though with the rb26 being my fav

...it's worth remembering that engine is nearly as old as the Cossie YB as it appeared in the R32 Skyline GTR at least which is an early 90's car.

What's the weight of that unit, Penski??

175Kg.

Thinking about a Scimmy?

PPC Recommend the Ford 302 - with alloy heads it's about the same weight as the all-iron V6. Doesn't lighten the nose like the RV8.

No, the scimitar idea is still going to be ford, if I go for it. Also, I'd fit the Jag IRS rear end, which I think is a bit heavier anyway.

I was actually wondering what it would go like in a GT6 or Stag :)

Now this is another great engine

The 5VZ-FE is a 3.4 L (3378 cc) engine. Bore is up to 93.5 mm (3.7 in) and stroke is 82.0 mm (3.2 in). Output is 190 hp (142 kW) at 4800 rpm with 220 ft·lbff (298 Nm) of torque at 3600 rpm. It has a cast iron engine block and aluminum DOHC cylinder heads. It uses MFI fuel injection, has 4 valves per cylinder with bucket tappets and features large cast connecting rods, a one-piece cast camshaft, and a cast aluminum intake manifold.

The 5VZ-FE also continued the 3VZ-FE's trend of being far overbuilt for its intended application. A handful of built versions exceed 900 hp (670 kW), and some stock engines can produce 450 hp (336 kW) or more. This has become a popular engine to consider when doing engine swaps with the avalibility of the 3.4 L TRD supercharger and custom turbocharger setups.

the YB is almost 10 yrs older than that though, circa 1985.
the pinto it's based on is decades older again.

You'd have real problems with a 1UZFE in a GT6, it's a massive motor - maybe the depth and length of it can be overcome but it's one wide sucker!
It'd have to be moved so far back into the bulkhead, methinks.

Measured up one for the Dolly and it wouldn't fit without substantial hacking of just about anything! :D That includes the bulkhead, floorpan, turrets, nose :p

I don't think it'd fit in a Stag without reworking the suspension turrets, so you'd have to check that though, I haven't looked at the dimensions. I know a Stag engine will fit in a Dolomite bay sans cooling pack....

You'd need a 5 series conversion for the rear end of the Stag to handle the output though - the halfshafts and crownwheel wouldn't take it :)

Can that Lexus/Toyota engine fit in an MK2 MR2?

It can be but you have to move the Chassis rails to make it a bit wider at the back and move the struts out and it now has a wide body on it :D
Go to www.twobrutal.co.uk and you will see a project happening on one right now
AFAIK there are about 2 or 3 in the making at the moment but no one has every got one in and completed yet, Although i have heard of a guy in New Zealand that might have got one in and didnt need to go wide body but it was a hell of a lot more work. Is forum name is vvega.

This is the engine.

EDIT: I didnt see you wrote MK2. Apparently the MK2 is far too Narrow to get the engine in and it is almost impossible and never been done

Oh just thought I'd say, roughly, sans ancilleries, the V8 forms a 650mm x 650mm x 650mm cube :)

Heres the exact Measurements of the thing :D

Bah, sumps the wrong way round for a chevette/manta. Sure it would have been an easy conversion other wise;). Didn't you look into putting one in a chevette penski? Just wondering how feasable it would be to squeeze one in a manta, bearing in mind there is more room in the manta to move the rad forward.
