Could anyone help me with University?

hi all i could do with some help.

i have just started college , and took 4 a levels. Graphic Design, Photography, Media and History. As of today i have dropped history, partly due to the work, and partly due to my beliefs. Anyway thats besides the point. The teacher i spoke to about dropping history said i could be a bit thin for university if i drop , but as i understood it you needed 3 a levels, and the ones you took didn't matter. I say this as people say media, for example, isn't accepted at some places.

i have looked at UCAS but got no where. does anyone know if this is the case, or does it just go off UCAS points to get in?

forgot to say, i want to do either graphics or photography

Depends where you want to go and what you want to do. Certain subjects require specific courses and results.

If you want to go to university, those 3 will be fine.

If you want to go to a good university and get a good degree, then keeping history would give you a better chance.

UCAS is points based. You'll get points based on how well you grade in each subject. This is my understanding.

it depends on the university, and what course you apply for. Some require you to have specific a levels for a course, but some just take the points value of any a-levels. General studies usually doesnt count though.

Depend on what you wanted to do, I did Engineering and they asked for Maths and Physics and prefered another science course as my third.

I presume you're wanting to do some kind of media degree, rather then Cosmology, in which case those should be fine.

What 'beliefs' cause you to drop History btw?

History is the only (real) essay based subject your doing there so some of the "higher up" (on university guide league table thing) universities may be a bit snobby about your a-levels (regardless of grades). But to do a media based course at most uni's you should be fine (as far as i know B's in all 3 should get you into media courses up here at Queens on the Uinversity of Ulster)

Yeah but the uni decides whether you get in or not, and many don't accept certain subjects.

These are LSE's "non-preferred" subjects

* Accounting
* Art and Design
* Business Studies
* Communication Studies
* Design and Technology
* Drama/Theatre Studies
* Home Economics
* Information and Communication Technology
* Law
* Media Studies
* Music Technology
* Sports Studies
* Travel and Tourism

As mentioned, you won't any classically well respected subjects to your name. As such you will probably struggle to get in to a Russell Group university, unfortunately. Seriously, why are you dropping History? Is it because it's difficult and the others are easy..?

Ive just looked at Russell Group Unis. I wouldn't want to go to them, seriously. Id much rather go to a Metropolitan Uni for example, one that is not full of "ya" people, if you get my jist.

History. I want to drop it because i don't want to be spoon fed a load of ****. If im being honest. Plus i couldn't care less about what they teach me

Waste of time and money.

I wouldn't say that - but you'd have to go to university with the right attitude and choose the right course otherwise do it wrong you'll come out of university 20k in debt and without a particularly improved prospect of getting a job.

well my brother and cousin have both gone to them , and come out pretty damn well.

Not really.

I've got a degree from Newcastle and a degree from Northumbria and I earn my living on the basis of the one from Northumbria.

No everyone at a Russell Group university is a "ya" it's fairly dependant on what course you do.
