Could anyone help me with University?

No offence but you sound like an idiot. Just get a job and goto part time courses.

I wouldn't bother doing a degree if it wasn't form a university in the Russell Group.
Waste of time and money.

What a load of nonsense. My degree isn't from a Russelll Group university and I earn more money than 90% of my Oxbridge alumni friends.

Obviously choosing the right degree is important but other universities aren't a "waste of time and money".

Doesn't really sound like university is for you. Why not try going to college and doing one of your chosen career paths there?

there's tons of universities that would let you in with next to no qualifications, 3 a levels is plenty mate

once you're in uni you'll think "pah, a levels were pointless"

Lol +1 for absolute rubbish. As far as i know my university isn't a Russell group, but is #2 for the subject in the U.K.

Id much rather go to a Metropolitan Uni for example, one that is not full of "ya" people, if you get my jist.

History. I want to drop it because i don't want to be spoon fed a load of ****. If im being honest. Plus i couldn't care less about what they teach me

Uni doesn't sound like the right place for you.

I wouldn't drop history even if you don't end up going to university. History is a great subject that will teach you to read and write well which are crucial skills no matter what you do. And has already been said, those other subjects aren't likely to get you to a 'good' uni.

get off your high horse.

everyone else, thanks for the help/

What high horse? Your the one who does not want to goto a good uni because of the other students, maybe it's you who needs to have a look in the mirror.

What high horse?

You were harsh, disrespectful, and blunt.

But you are also completely spot on and have opened the floodgates to some reality checks.

Not everybody can go to Uni. From the attitude the OP has demonstrated in this thread, he should get a job and not go to Uni. The economy wouldnt work if everyone was a rocket scientist, would it?

hi all i could do with some help.

i have just started college , and took 4 a levels. Graphic Design, Photography, Media and History. As of today i have dropped history, partly due to the work, and partly due to my beliefs. Anyway thats besides the point. The teacher i spoke to about dropping history said i could be a bit thin for university if i drop , but as i understood it you needed 3 a levels, and the ones you took didn't matter. I say this as people say media, for example, isn't accepted at some places.

i have looked at UCAS but got no where. does anyone know if this is the case, or does it just go off UCAS points to get in?

forgot to say, i want to do either graphics or photography

Poke some universities and ask for requirements, go see them. My offer was x number of ucas points and an E in either x,y or z. Generally the "elite" types like oxford and cambridge won't look at you unless you got fifty million A*'s at gcse and half as many A levels . But really I would not bother with league tables and such, just go and see them on an open day, talk to the lecturers. Ask some questions see if you will enjoy it.

But seriously to me going to uni was more about growing up rather then anything else, I did a computing related thing that you could learn from books if you really wanted to but I don't regret any one bit of it.

Obviously some courses like medicine or something you would't be able to just learn from books. And for once actually reading most of the thread ;). Photography or graphics hmmh, you should ask what exactly is involved in the course and recommend going for one with a placement.

Don't look at the university, look at the course and those teaching it.

Although if they think you're clever they'll let you in with less. I think my Uncle was offered one E for cambridge, which he got and was in LOL! I believed he'd read up on the professors main area of research and they both happened to be milkmen so they just talked about that stuff for the interview :p

This 'history is a pack of lies' mentality is intrigueing, did what happened not actually happen? Am i even alive? the world is upside down .... or flat!

I am genuinely curious as to what "beliefs" can conflict with history as a subject? I'm not asking to slate you, but I am curious as I've never really heard of a belief that conflicts with college history.

What topics are you currently studying in history?

Im not going into it, as for one reason, this isn't the sole reason. There are others. Like being in a class full of ****'s. Another being i hate what i am being taught. But like i say, i am not going into depth, as like we have already seen, i am being slated.

I think i will go to student guidance tomorrow and ask them, they should have a good idea.

It depends on the course you're looking at as to what A-levels will be accepted. Order some prospectuses from some uni websites and send around some e-mail enquiries.

For the courses I take it you'd be applying for, those A levels will be fine. If you were looking at doing something else then you'd almost certainly be ignored.

Whilst you might not get past the first stage of applications according to your GCSEs and predicted A2s, what's more important is probably your personal statement. If you can get to interview because they like what they read there then that's half way. Applications are basically entirely decided on the interview and what they thought of you in a tutorial-style situation.

Whatever a 'ya' is, I'd encourage anyone who was thinking of applying to do so. The Russell Group and specifically Oxbridge really aren't how they're made out to be ...

Other people aren't really an excuse, everyone has to deal with working with people they don't like in many circumstances. But from the sounds of this thread you just seem to have a problem with a lot of people, including people in universities you have yet to meet, so I think the problem lies with you.

I'm also not sure if this thread is an attempt to troll slightly, if your beliefs weren't particularly relevant and you didn't want to talk about them, why bring it up?
