could have bought a car, but spent it on my 'puter!

Awaits the next thread:

"Could have paid the rent, but spunked it on this 2gb limited 3dmark score:("

If you're getting Vista64, then why not go for the 4GB of RAM? After all, it's far easier to stroke the old e-peen with 4GB than 2 you know!

i like the way i mentioned that i bought a mobo and hdd's etc etc in my first post. :o im getting 64bit as i already have 2gb.

as far as a willy waving competition, think on, its nothing of the sort, in fact, i didnt even think of it like that till now

If it's not willy waving, what is it?

What was your motivation with this thread?

Opportunity cost, my friend. There's always something else you could have done/bought.

I was thinking to myself only the other day that what I'm spending on flying lessons every month amounts to around half the cost of the finance payment on a Ferrari F430. I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt what gives me more enjoyment though.

£1100 isn't too excessive for a PC in my opinion. If you want to really shock yourself, work out how much your PC ownership has cost over your lifetime in depreciation. I think for most people here it will amount to 5 figures.

You'll never have everything you want in life and, no matter how wealthy or successful you become in the future, there will always be something you want for. Ok so you've got a helicopter, but you'd really like a yacht...

Edit: You guys talk about willies far too much.

Half a ferrari would be crap though, you'd fall out!

:p

RE willy waving though... it's not. He might be talking about how much money he's just spent, but I don't think it's really willy waiving.

The worst part of getting something new is saying goodbye to the money :(

im not sure why i didnt think of this before but im only realising that i could have bought a 2nd hand car of my own with the amount of money that i spent on my pc the last few days. i already have free access to a car when i require it so thats maybe why i didnt think twice.

ive spent a total of £1100+ on the following items in less than 7 days!

Q6600
Tuniq Tower 120
2GB Geil 6400 ULL
BFG 8800GTX OC2
OCZ 780w ModXstream PSU
Dell 2407 WFP

soon to buy vista prem 64 bit

have i too much money or just lacking in brain cells.

has anyone else done this before and then realised afterwards

well with a car you also have insurance, tax and upkeep of the car (petrol etc.) so i would say you have made the right choice if you have access to a car. i made the same choice and bought a macbook pro instead of a car, as i can use my mums car whenever i need it :)

Do I win for the worst pc on an overclocking forums?

This is my main one :p Was top spec when I got it in year 6 (probably around 2000 ish. not 100% sure on when).

Does firefox(some flash stuff kills it) and winamp simultaneously.
Can't really do cs1.6 at a decent res with lots of action (over 1024x768 and it's unplayable).

Forgot to say, it has a GF2, which it came with. I bought a gf4 ti4600 or something which let it play newer games, but it died, so it's back to a gf2 :/

do i sense a hint of sarcasim?

looks like you didnt read the thread from the top down.

please, go post elsewhere
I had read it all actually, I still think my response was valid.

I don't care if you just spent £1100 on PC stuff, just because you give a comparison that you could have bought a car, then proceed to tell everyone you didn't want a car anyway doesn't change my view. You blatently just wanted everyone to know how much you've just spent on your PC.

Glad I stopped upgrading my computer, not done it for 2 years and I will never pay stupid prices again, you could have got a 360 and a car for that.

how in any way does my OP smack of a willy waving contest. if i really wanted to start willy waving id have said so. just because some people have money doesnt mean they are willy waving. ive been saving up here and there and thought id treat myself.

just get over yourself, just because your setup does exactly what you want it to do, doesnt mean that people cant upgrade theirs and post their setups. this is a message board where people ask for advice and get systems spec'd for them or post their own custom specs and ask 'spec check' you dont see people slagging them off and calling them willy wavers as they are about to spend 2k on an sli system with custom tripple rad setups with dedicated rad boxes or phase setups. think of other people on here that spend hundreds of pounds each month on a motherboard upgrade or water cooling to get that essential 1mhz increase of an oc. im not going to start naming people, but im sure you know who they are, they dont get slated or acused of willy waving so why should i get slated just for having a bit of cash and spending it on a setup that need/want. my setup isnt the nest out there, yes its a hefty amount of cash but its my cash! go look in motors and see them lot who can spend x amount on a m3 or ctr's then call me a willy waver!

do us all a favour and keep your unwanted posts to yourself and go post on chavscum or somewhere similar.

How could you possibly be "willy waving" (cringe) by posting that you spent £1100 on a PC. Who on this forum hasn't done that at some point?

Some people just like to bitch and moan because they've got nothing else in their lives. It's really sad :(.

I went to Vegas and managed to spend a grand in 4 days, got back thinking I could have really used that money for some stuff, like a new computer that I desperately needed so had to get a sodding credit card.

Did you have fun though?

Gambling really doesn't do it for me (unless I win!) but a lot of people enjoy the odd 'flutter' in which case it's money well spent IMO :).
