could you get by without the Internet in your job?

I would go loopy as it would mean I have nothing to do while waiting for my antique steam powered computer to do calculations in Excel and the like.

sitting here at working posting on my iPhone as our Internet is off for the day.

Our full system here is 100% Internet based so doing anything at all is very hard.

But if there was no internet, you'd have different systems developed so you'd still be able to do your job. People still bought flats in 1980.

It's a site office and is probably all based in a portal.

They could tidy the office or brush up outside. There is always something to do.

o yea i agree.

what i ment was if the internet was to go down for a week say. they wouldnt develop a new system just for that week.

all my vendors and clients are on the system, with no internet i cannot access these details or the property details.

I work at home as a Bedroom Warrior (Car Leasing) and also some Web Development so I would be buggered with no Internet.

Yes i could get by without the internet,
However would cost a lot more to do what i do, productions times would increase exponentially and it would be harder to do things you take for granted (e.g. download the latest kernel's, VPN etc...)

I'd get more work done for sure - but I'd run out of work to do, I'm quite efficient and tend to get things done. It's nice to have the distraction, useful for research though.

I could maybe get by , but things would be a lot more expensive.

No VOIP calls to Hong Kong/Dubai etc., would have to actually call my customers / suppliers instead of talking on MSN all day, call couriers to track parcels etc.

I would still get work done, but a lot slower than normal.

It wouldn't really affect us that much, would make checking the weather harder but not impossible.

In my last job, definately. Most of my department didn't have internet access, but there was quite a lot on the intranet that made things much easier.

Well this morning I came in to find that our website has been hacked. Someone has tried to add a link to some dodgy script file by the looks of things. Luckily in doing this they've messed up the search function so that users can't find the entries that have the links on them. However, having a website that doesn't work is still a pain in the behind.

PK!

I guess so. If there was no 'internet' then I guess we wouldn't have an internal Intranet either. So I'd have to spend my day unlocking user accounts instead of programming.
