Hey.

Just brought Counter Strike Source today. Normally play BF2 and before that Raven Shield.

Basicly I'm looking for some tips and tricks as I'm new to it.

What are good ways to play, techniques, do's and do not's?

I'm sure I'm not the only person new to it so shoot.

Get up close and personal.

Spray

Pray

and camp a lot.

There are some very good players in CS and some very rubbish players. You'll find all sorts. You'll also find a huge amount of cheaters as well, but that's another topic.

wear headphones.

let others rush in, let the enemy shoot them then you jump out and kill them whilst they reload.

dont throw your grenades too early

dont just hold down the trigger and expect accurate shooting

use the auto shot gun in close quarter maps for easy kills.

dont get too distraught when you get owned by people. expect lots of leet speak too.

get awp and deagle and overlook choke points/main routes from a distance.

run around closed in areas spraying the mp5.

or do what i do, charge with awp/deagle, if too many rush you, fall back and make them come to you. but despite what most cs players think you are not a n00b for doing that, especially when you take the whole team out by yourself, multiple times :p :D

^ What he said. Headphones are definitely a must for CSS.

My own tips:
  • Aim for the head.
  • Always reload before going into battle (should be obvious).
  • If you run out of ammo in a firefight, don't reload; switch to sidearm (if they're close enough).
  • When you get killed, spend some time watching the pros to see how they play.
  • Stick with one weapon, learn how it works and get used to it.
  • Fire in short bursts.
  • Always buy armour, always carry grenades.
  • Don't waste your money on crap weapons and no armour etc. if you can't afford better; wait for the next round then buy better weapons.

erm, no...

if your short on cash, watch to see if your team are buying lots of weapons, if they do then buy a deagle or stick with usp and buy armour. you can then pick a gun off a dead person.
hell you can kill loads with just a pistol even if you dont get to pick up a rifle, just aim for the head.

That's exactly what I do... just stick with the pistol and pick up someone else's (or buy a better one next round if you can't).

I was thinking dieing would be a giggle.

I notice many guns don't have scopes. Whats a must when you have money. Kevlar? Helmet, secondary/primary mags?

Primary ammo is essential, unless you plan on taking on the other team with one clip :)
Kevlar + helmet is also a very good choice. Don't worry too much about not having a scope, afterall, most real guns don't :)

Fair enough. I just mentioned it because I'm use to having one in other games. Seems like a lot of games there is basicly always a point when the two sides meet and the levls being small its not long till the group holds up and gets in their positions.

So is there a leader of the side as such?
