Useless lazy waste-of-space didn't even try to deliver. And Hermes the company won't take calls from recipients. Total customer service fail.

From their tracking page:

820297311XXXXXXX Postcode: ABxx XXX

Date Time Status
10/06/2015 13:19 Courier to Re-attempt on 11/06/2015
10/06/2015 13:17 Out For Delivery
10/06/2015 07:19 Manifested to Courier

I very much doubt their depot is within two minutes of me inclusive of any delivery attempt. There was no visit - I've been in all day. No note was left at the door or in the letterbox. I've not missed any phone calls.

I am seriously unimpressed.

Not an OCUK delivery, BTW.

Never had a problem with any couriers including Hermes and I've used them to both send and receive a fair bit, as usual it all just comes down to your local depot.

It's not a guaranteed delivery date, they probably just couldn't fit it in the van after processing to go out for delivery. Relax.

i dont think most couriers will speak to the recipient. most will only accept redirect requests from the sender etc.

use hermes all the time and (touch wood) never had any bother.

I wouldnt read into the updates too much.

Looks like the courier got it on the 10th and is going to deliver on the 11th, which is what I would normally expect.

To be fair it doesn't actually say they tried to deliver the package. As suggested it may have been missed during the morning collection and left at the depot; this makes more sense considering they haven't carded you.

Of course it's certainly possible that the "courier" (who is usually just a housewife pottering around in her car..my ex's mum used to be a Hermes courier) had a family emergency, or went off ill, or who knows what else.

These things happen and you're just going to have to suck it up and expect it to arrive tomorrow.

Had problems with Hermes before doing the same thing, I try to use sites with DPD, I have never had a problem with them.

DPD are by far the best around here. I used to work next to their depot and had no problems collecting from them when I was working a night shift. Unfortunately, they no longer deal with private clients; it's business-only.

That's not what their own log says.

And that's a good reason to not use Hermes and instead use a courier with professional delivery drivers.

yup and DPD cost a darn sight more to ship with compared to hermes.

I reckon that "out for delivery" is an administrative step which has something to do with them cancelling something in the system at their end.

All my recently sent hermes parcels look like this:

14/05/2015 10:53 Delivered to Shed
14/05/2015 09:36 Courier Received
14/05/2015 05:57 Manifested to Courier

Your courier hasn't received the parcel.

That's not what their own log says.

Unless you've not given us all the information then yes, that is exactly what is says. Nowhere does it say "Delivery attempted"; all it says is "Out For Delivery" and "Courier to Re-attempt on 11/06/15; you're the one making an assumption that delivery has been attempted between those two entries.

"Out For Delivery" could well just be a stage their systems don't allow them to bypass, which is why the Out For Delivery and Courier to Re-attempt entries are so close together.

In response to your comment about them using professional drivers, any courier is susceptible to issues out of their control; no matter if you're using Hermes or DPD, a driver going sick is unavoidable on occasion.

My mum had ordered something for delivery Sunday past, checked the tracking later in the day and it said "driver couldn't access property, re deliver", something like that anyway. Now we live off a main road and I've never had an issue with parcels being delivered. Seems like pure laziness on the couriers part

Out for delivery scans (with most couriers anyway) are usually the result of a round being fully loaded/ready to leave. The courier (normally a housewife) will then decide what ones they are going to attempt that day (if any) and what ones will be tomorrow. Hence the scan 2 minutes later saying yours will be delivered the next day. Nowhere does it say your delivery had been attempted, read the updates for what they are and don't let your brain try and fill in gaps that are not there.

Hermes is not generally a timed service and it costs senders very little to use. If you want a better, or timed service, then you or the company you are buying from are going to need to use a proper courier not one that trunks stuff and gets it delivered by randoms in their personal cars.

Either a delivery driver or a random person in the UK has my Asus laptop because of Yodel's incompetence. :p

At least Hermes aren't Yodel.

It seems like one of these threads appears almost every week about a different delivery company. Are they all really that bad? I've never had any issues and I order almost everything online.

Never actually had an issue with Hermes in my area - definitely depends on who your local driver is. I think we've had 3 or 4 deliveries via Hermes in the past week without an issue. I do prefer DPD and Interlink though purely for their 1-hour window & live tracking.

Despite the bad rap they get, I've had no issues at all with Hermes or Yodel. In fact the only courier I've ever had issues with was City Link, and I don't mean isolated cases, I mean literally six individual deliveries in a row that were late or went missing. I actually had to stop using OCUK for a while until they ditched City Link for the south west.

I have to say being out here in the wilds of Shropshire I have never encountered any problems with Hermes -Yodel - RM - Post office- DHL - My neighbour is a ex Postman and he takes over Hermes when guy is on holiday - he is up very early sorting his round - M&S clothing hung from garage door and van being packed to suit his delivery. Out by 8.00 and back late -

I wouldn't say they were monkeys - There are a lot of monkeys earning big bucks.
