Couriers - don't use Hermes

I hate hermes with a passion, dread being forced into delivery by them. No idea why vendors would opt for their business, no doubt cost driven.

It costs less than half the price of an average next day delivery to use Hermes.

Thats the only reason people use them.

It used to the be the case that a lot of carriers (ANC/Fedex, Tuffnells, Citylink, Lynx express, Parcelforce) all used to offer a 2-3 day option for customers.

Its only Tuffnells, Parcelforce and Fedex offer a budget 2/3 day service now, and they are not a lot cheaper than next day.

I didn't get a choice. My order was with High & Mighty, and I've wasted another glorious day waiting for a delivery that has yet to arrive.

Hermes are terribad, I was late answering door and when I got to it the driver had driven off and just dumped parcel on doorstep! Apparently signed for too.

The drivers are all sorts of untrustworthy looking blokes turning up in what I assume are their own cars.

Don't blame the drivers, blame the company.

Most of if not all the drivers for Hermes are "self employed" and get paid per delivery, which is approx 40-60p per parcel and slightly more if its a "signed for" item.

If the delivery is a fair distance away from them they will likely say sod that and just mark it as not in, because it would cost them more in fuel to get to you. Likewise they will also likely just dump it on the doorstep and mark it off so they get their few pence.

Pay peanuts, you get monkeys as it goes :)

Useless lazy waste-of-space didn't even try to deliver. And Hermes the company won't take calls from recipients. Total customer service fail.

From their tracking page:

820297311XXXXXXX Postcode: ABxx XXX

Date Time Status
10/06/2015 13:19 Courier to Re-attempt on 11/06/2015
10/06/2015 13:17 Out For Delivery
10/06/2015 07:19 Manifested to Courier

I very much doubt their depot is within two minutes of me inclusive of any delivery attempt. There was no visit - I've been in all day. No note was left at the door or in the letterbox. I've not missed any phone calls.

I am seriously unimpressed.

Not an OCUK delivery, BTW.

Heh, at least they didn't lose it, or steal it more like. My Playstation3 never arrived, just had a "delivered" message on their tracking site, 3 minutes after it was signed out of the depot which is 30 miles away. I was in all day too. Never did arrive. The other time something was "delivered" was to my mothers house i.e. tossed over the garden fence lying in the back yard in the rain. Mind you at 50p per delivery I can't honestly say I blame them that much.

Either a delivery driver or a random person in the UK has my Asus laptop because of Yodel's incompetence. :p

At least Hermes aren't Yodel.

Never had any trouble with Yodel whatsoever. PS3... Laptop... there may be a pattern emerging. :p

Ordered a very expensive motherboard from a competitor, it was sent by hermes. It was thrown over a 6foot gate and landed a good 5 feet away from the gate.

It was left in the rain there all day in a carbord box lol.

Why would a top company (not ocuk) send out a £100 pc part with such an awful company?

Because UK consumers are still living in a free delivery bubble and won't pay for the service.

My local Hermes guy always attempts a redelivery and leaves his home phone number on the card if you miss him. He's always received his parcels in good time. Never had a bad experience with them... now DPD is another matter.

Basically couriers are a postcode lottery as to whether they are good or not.

Agreed, DPD & Royal Mail are fantastic and always have been for me. Where as hermes have always been diabolical.

Our last delivery from Hermes was a almost a disaster. A package from the USA was delivered to a house at the end of our street because the driver couldn't read the address which was all over the parcel. Luckily the people came back from holiday a week later to find it by the side of their house and bring it over to us. Even more amazing is that it wasn't damaged by rain or stolen! Hermes did give us an apology.

Hermes lost one of my packages, and I mean literally lost in transit, never got to me never even got to the attempted delivery stage.

Then they had to redeliver the item, it was supposed to be two days delivery, and I got confirmation package was in my town, and for two days I had attempted deliveries failed, which were lies.

I see why they may be so bad now. Would it be better to use these Collect places some companies use or do they deliver to them too?

Holy thread resurrection Batman!

Anyhoo, expecting a delivery today and I spy a car coming onto my driveway. I reach the door in time to see the 'sorry you where not in' leaflet flutter through the letterbox. I open the door in time to see Mr Yodel climbing into his car. I gave a shout to let him know I was there, only for the courier to stare straight at me, reverse out of the driveway and proceed to toodle off.

No matter how cheaply they deliver, how can it be viable to be this bad? It just doesn't make sense that they would do this but it seems that this happens all of the time.

Conversely, I had Mr Yodel knock on my door, wait and hand me a parcel. If your driver looked at you and still proceeded to leave without delivering the parcel the problem is with the driver not the company.
