Couriers - don't use Hermes

Because it rhymes with Herpes???

On a serious note I've never had any. Issues with them.

So just because you had a bad experience it should represent the whole service?

Always the case with threads like these. I've not had a problem using myHermes through Parcel monkey.

I can also vouch that hermes suck. I send 200-300 items via them over a period of about 6 weeks. The amount of items that arrived smashed, cracked, late, not at all, stolen or "left in a secure location" was unbelievable. Their customer services is maze of stock reply apologist, who pass the buck until they break you.

Some days, I was virtually driven to insanity.

Avoid at all costs.

I had ordered a bunch of stuff from different retailers just before xmas for family Xmas presents. One very wet, rainy afternoon I saw someone getting out of a van, and head straight to the side gate of my house. By the time i got outside he had gone. The guy made no attempt to call at the door..he simply went through the side gate of the house, dumped the box and left. Wifes Xmas present lying in a huge pool of water being rained. Luckily I saw him and the box was only outside for 30 seconds but ordinarily I wouldnt have known.

Never known anything like it. Only scum would do that, would not touch them again for anything.

You work in the industry, iirc - that correct? Why don't more companies do what DPD do with live tracking and one hour long windows - eg. I'll be told something's arriving tomorrow, then in the morning they'll give me a one hour window in which I know it'll arrive (so I don't have to hang around/gamble and rush a shower/etc!). I can't see how that'd cost much to implement, tbh... but presumably I'm being dense and it'd cost loads to do, or something. Random Amazon Logistics people, for example, could carry a smart phone which could send all the necessary data through a corporate app on a smart phone... it's not as though all the delivery staff would need an expensive gadget sent out to them.

It's better for the end user, and I'd assume it'd result in fewer redeliveries needed given people will be more likely to be in for that specific slot, or if they know they won't be they'll rearrange it before a delivery attempt is made. Although I don't know how tiny the margins are on cheaper parcel delivery services, nor do I know the frequency and cost of redeliveries, etc - rambling from a position of ignorance :p:cool:.

Because-
It's very expensive to implement.
It has no effect on the % of successful deliveries made or cards left (I work for a rival company and the triangle report, which is the indestries independent market research company place us 2 places higher than DPD in both delivered first time and on time delivery success)
In fact it has put us above DPD in most categories for the past 4 years.

Out for delivery scans (with most couriers anyway) are usually the result of a round being fully loaded/ready to leave. The courier (normally a housewife) will then decide what ones they are going to attempt that day (if any) and what ones will be tomorrow. Hence the scan 2 minutes later saying yours will be delivered the next day. Nowhere does it say your delivery had been attempted,

Generally, to re-attempt delivery, one has to make a prior attempt.

They must have not asked around here. DPD have been by far the best couriers hereabouts.

I purchase a lot on-the-line and in most cases all deliveries are on-time although we focus on the bad cases more than the good. I can honestly say DPD have never let me down where others have.

I wouldn't tar entire companies, I've used most couriers and in my local area the only one that's ever given me problems was Parcelforce, tried this a few times and each time they've either taken additional days to deliver next day (longest wait was 4 days, not even at a busy time of year) and once they've lost a parcel for it to turn up a week later, bashed to bits.

Myhermes are surprisingly good but I think that's down to the local courier staff being used, best by a mile is DPD though - I've used them a lot and never ever had a problem.

Why do people defend couriers so ?

IF they have crap staff or your depot/routes are over loaded you will get a crap service.
Doesn't matter what company.

Pay for premium services if you want a premium service. Hermes isn't a premium service. Its a "shopping" delivery service. Its bloody cheap or even offered free.

People understand that 1 person having 1 bad experience doesn't mean the entire company is bad.

I had a delivery from Wiggle from DX.
Apparently it went out for delivery at 6:30am, due to be delivered yesterday between 9 and 5.

No sign of it at 5:40pm so I went home (delivered to work)
Check the tracking later on and had left a card due to being unable to deliver... only option is to schedule a redelivery two days later... :(

Apparently the card was left at 6:55pm. The *****.

Won't be ordering from wiggle again if they're going to use these clowns in future if I don't get my parcel by the time I leave on Friday.

Weird - that seems counterintuitive. Does the report cover everything, or is it just a B2B thing? I just Googled for it briefly and it came up with a B2B one, but I don't know if there's anything else or if that's what you're referring to.

Everything as far as I am aware.

They push me to use the report in front of customers as its independent and shows us in a good light.

I dont like using it, and have only used it once of twice in front of potentially big customers when I have hit a bit of brick wall.

The issue of text messaging and ETA's never comes up in conversation in most cases when I am up against DPD, its mostly:

Collection times.
Lack of resources.
Lack of flexibility.
You cant talk to anyone who can do anything when something goes wrong.
Price- as it per pack and not per con.

Anyone who sends any kind of multi part traffic I can wipe the floor with them.
