Covers that are better than the original

We've had this thread at least once before, but I'll make the same prediction that I made last time, in the form of a question:

How many people like a cover more than an original, where they heard the cover after being well familiar with the original? I ask, because the theory says that you always like the first version that you hear - or at least take any notice of. Otherwise I cannot fathom how anyone would put Placebo over Kate Bush (except in fanfic).

Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U
China Drum - Wuthering Heights (although I'm not sure I prefer it to the original, it's good in a different way)
Foo Fighters - Band On The Run (I've recently come to the conclusion this is better than the Wings version)

I can't be bothered to find a link on my mobile but Harry Connick Jr's "It had to be you". Far better than the original IMO.

Foo Fighters - Band On The Run (I've recently come to the conclusion this is better than the Wings version)

Absolutely agree with this. The dramatic changes throughout the song are channelled perfectly by a band with such great versatility as the Foo Fighters. The song could have been written by them.

The Placebo one is a good shout actually but Cheval Sombre's cover of Hyacinth House is miles better than the doors original! Shame its not on youtube at the moment :(

Controversial shout, but any cover of a Depeche Mode song because no matter how good the song is, the Depeche Mode version bores me to tears.

Faith No More's cover of Lionel Ritchie's "Easy"

I prefer The Red Hot Chilli Pepper's cover of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground" cause its more rockier than dancehall funk :D

Prefer this to the Springsteen original.

Still prefer the Talking Heads original but a good effort.

Can't remember who did the original but this beats it (imo) :)

Remember the movie Crimson Tide?

Original by Ministry (Psalm 69 album)
