CPR W3 on Hairworks(Nvidia Game Works)-'the code of this feature cannot be optimized for AMD'

It's cool bud and not rude at all. NVidia have said that they have investigated and noticed some issues with Kepler cards and are working to resolve it. I am sure they will fix that soon :)

As for the geforce forums, I read every time that someone has had enough and going to the red camp.... I check back 6 months later and that some person is saying the same things :D

It's even worse on the Red team. :p

I dread to think what AMD's driver team is like right now. :D

Yer and I hope they can bounce back soon, as it just isn't fair on the users. I can't find that post and too tired to look too hard but will have a hunt for it in the morning. Well worth a read if I can find it.

Nvidia are a business obviously but giving the code for the specific effect should be something thats done by default because the dev is using their effect in the game and most likely will be advertised as such. So its another game for nvidia to toot their horn about being gameworks enabled.

We already had physics with havok etc before gpu's started doing it. When it comes to anti aliasing methods most of them are done through the drivers and control panel and presumably don't need much in the way of game dev interaction. But things like anti aliasing are gpu centric and what gpu's have been doing since 1999\2000. Trying to throw effects like explosions, hair etc around are more in the realms of game developer territory, so why gpu manufacturers need to start churning them out i've no idea.

If anything its probably preferential that game devs do those kind of particle effects (explosions, dust etc) otherwise you'll likely get to a point where games have incredibly similar effects using the same effect from gameworks over and over, or hair from tressfx.

We don't know how hard it is to become a licensee and get the code, it might be really easy and free.
In this perfect world where everything is done 'right' I'd also hope that there is only one library to do these things rather than competing libraries. Also would be nice if they could all be controlled by consortium so that everyone gets a say. It might also be nice if there was less hardware variation to make optimising easier. Each IHV is only allowed to have 3 discrete card models on sale at any one time (Entry, Mid and High-end). They have to have the same compute power and can't have fancy propriety tech like CUDA cores. If all hardware has the same capabilities it makes things much easier.

Yeah we had Havok, but do we want physics engines to run on CPUs? Who's going to change that if not for the GPU vendors? Runnign it on CPUs probably helps sell higher end Intel hardware. Who own Havok now?

I doubt most developers have the free time to try out making new effects like these. So I fear that if it were left up to them, it wouldn't get done.
If you want that, I think you can turn off most/all GameWorks effects (not sure about TressFX, I guess you can use an Nvidia GPU and have them disabled automatically).
If you do want nice effects, someone has to make them, if we assume developers won't, who do we want to do it? Do we expect them to optimise for both sets of hardware?

The other AA types might be in the drivers, but they're still produced by the IHVs. Where they're located (game/drivers) seems a little academic.

Writing them in the first place is only half the battle. Maintaining them, bug fixing them, improving them and supporting the people that use them also has to be taken into account. This is somethign that Nvidia and AMD do, but is a lot to ask a developer or academic to do for the life of the software.

There is most certainly something going on with gameworks. Ive done a good deal of digging now and testing. If you remove the Apex/gamework files that are shipped with witcher so only PhysX3common_X64.dll & GFSDK_SSAO are left performance goes up. At the Well area in White Orchard with all shipped files i get 44-46 fps staring at the left house when you enter the well area..Removing said gameworks files i just wrote about leaves the fps at around 52-54. Ive rerun the test atleast 10 times now and the result are the same every single time. Using the same settings for both scenarios and making sure the game is in fullscreen before i begin.

Gameworks files intact:

Gameworks files removed:

This testing was done on the hotfix driver 353.00 for the notebooks(not that it matters) without physx, 3dvision drivers/controllers, mirage and geforce experience installed. Ofcourse trying to enable hairworks after removing said files crashes the game..runs fine though as long as hairworks is set to off. Would be nice if someone else could try this out and report back with the results.

Ive tracked down one of the performance culprits to the file APEX_ClothingGPU_x64.dll. The game works just fine without it it seems. Go to the quoted post if you dont know what im talking about.

Message me over trust if you find it, i'll be interested to read it. I'll be waiting for a Witcher 3 crossfire profile before i play any further, i want to enjoy it with the detail turned on Ultra. Minus HairWorks though ofc. :D

Have AMD even got a driver out for this yet? What excuse do they have for Elite Dangerous and not even running Crossfire when it has been out for the public since December? I can understand that some of you are frustrated that it isn't running well on your cards but continuously pointing the finger at everyone bar themselves is getting tiresome. I can see why so many people are annoyed and switching to NVidia.

trolololol?
you come on this thread with a big troll like that baiting as much as u can? lol
wow!

you could have just kept to the points being made instead of turning it into nvidia v amd moronic..ness
pretty lame greg

Don't worry red team, it can't be optimised for Nvidia cards either :D

In witcher 3 I enable it for just Geralt and my frame rate dropped from 45fps to 38fps (exact same scene), it looks nice but no way is it worth that cost.

Well I am sure if a mod wasn't happy with that post, they would have deleted it . No troll intended and more of my own frustrations showing. That Twitch video thread (that I dare not post in) is a real kick in the teeth to AMD users and the guys at AMD should be concentrating on getting their own users some drivers out for the games that people are playing now instead of pointing fingers at people other than themselves. They mention TressFX and how wonderful it is but why is it blocked and needing a fix to work on nVidia in Lichdom? You can't tell me that the Lichdom devs decided to alienate over 70% of the PC gamers on their own back? My money is AMD paid them to block it (which doesn't bother me) but then to come out all squeaky clean and pointing fingers boils my blood.

CDPR don't have this game fully optimised, as it does look superb but not as good for the performance hit on NVidia either and whilst I love the game, I just feel that this whole fiasco is getting blown out of proportion and while AMD are pointing fingers, they don't even have a driver for it..... What does that tell you?

no its not about wanting get you in trouble, im not like that, i dont even report posts ever lol

but honestly i dont care your frustrations, your post had nothing to do with the 10 above it, people should be allowed to debate things on here without some fanboi getting all butthurt feeling its an attack on their favourite company in the whole wide world
why should others have to worry about ur online boner!, its pretty selfish!

im not even going to read the rest of your post you dont deserve it :)

I never insulted anyone on the forum but instead you have called me a troll and called me a fanboi and said that the rest of my post doesn't deserve to be read.... Yer, that is pretty insulting but I guess that is fine, as you are not having a dig at NVidia or AMD and those posts can stand!

No crashes for me so far... must be those 980's of yours lampbchop, I think you need some AMD goodness in your life! ;) :p

Game runs pretty well on my pc in sig (3 or so settings reduced to get 50+ fps) although still get micro-stutter every now, doesn't matter what I do, same with every other gameworks title.

And yeah, the downgrade is a ****ing joke, can't believe people think the game is good looking especially compared to gta 5....

^^

That one has EVERYTHING set to max as well
I am impressed with the graphics in these screenshots of mine though (everything was set to max for these):

The lighting, shadows & atmosphere save this game from being a complete fail on the graphical side of things imo.

Didnt they say they cant downgrade when there's nothing to downgrade ? yeah right, next game of theirs I'm gonna pirate the **** out of it and you can quote me on that.

Oh and on this game, its a crashing ****ing mess.

Well like 1 & 2 ill wait for the Enhanced Edition :)

Totally agree. There are quite a lot of fanboys in the official thread who will attack you for saying anything negative about the game so there's no point in commenting (those blabbering that some people we're taking gaming too seriously... the irony:rolleyes:). The truth is, though, the game really does look mediocre at times and the best testament to this is the fact that I had to use SweetFX to get its visuals to a somewhat decent level. Comparisons to GTAV are pretty pointless, it has Witcher 3 beat in practically every department.

I agree W3 is very addictive and by no means bad but it has quite a lot of quirks which, in my eyes, prevent it from being the "masterpiece" everyone touts it to be. The animations are quirky and the requirements are bloody ridiculous for something that looks like that. The devs opted for a giant world but didn't quite have the resources to make it visually stunning from end to end. Thus, it's mostly filled with copy&paste villages separated by a sea of cardboard grass and 2001 water, where you can't have a conversation with 99% of the population. I would have preferred a smaller, more streamlined experience with more immersive graphics and less quirks. I have yet to find a location which would be as atmospheric and visually pleasing as Flotsam in Witcher 2 (some forested areas are quite impressive with SweetFX, though).
Besides, judging by the 2014 gameplay, most of the textures and effects seemed doable on PC. Did they really had to get rid of that sky because it pushed the hardware too much?;p

There's still loads to do (side quests are better than the main storyline) and I'm surprised I like it as much as I do (because, frankly, I do like it quite a lot), it's just that I expected a bit more from all the hype.

lol greg <3

yeh i agree with the above
maybe it says something about what trash we've expected from AAA's to see this one touted as a masterpiece :o

its a good game i enjoy it, masterpiece no!, i agree feels a bit cookiecutter like i should be looking for observation towers or something >.<
also i cant see how anyone can say they are a pc developer not a console one when their cutscenes are at 30fps! that looks like p00p on the pc
