CPR W3 on Hairworks(Nvidia Game Works)-'the code of this feature cannot be optimized for AMD'

Didnt they say they cant downgrade when there's nothing to downgrade ? yeah right, next game of theirs I'm gonna pirate the **** out of it and you can quote me on that.

Oh and on this game, its a crashing ****ing mess.

Yea i usually pirate most ubisoft games now to see how they run. if they run okay then ill buy them. Did it with AC: unity and rogue and black flag. Also splintercell blacklist and conviction. I own/bought all of them now though. Only game i dint bother with was watchdogs. But this is because i don't feel like i can trust them and buy them out right. Will probs pirate Witcher 3 too and see how i get on but atm i got enough to play and just bought Elite dangerous too which i might report back on to see how it runs on my system.

But this Witcher 3 has defo been downgraded, you can visibly tell with the draw distances, textures, particles, etc. Also the density of things has been downgraded. In towns and cities there is not as many people nor buildings etc. Devs want to come out and say nothing has been downgraded. They are utter fools if they think we believe that. Were pc gamers for the love of god we love beautiful graphical games so we can tell the difference allright.

let me know how much better it is! i cant play right now :(
i think the biggest change on the last update i liked was the keyboard response stuff

Anyone's thoughts on whether or not to start dedicated Nvidia W3 tweaking thread and another for AMD???

Np, won't get a good shot until late tonight.

Just had a quick play and frames have gone up a chunk but not a fair reflection, as I am Ciri at the moment and not Geralt. Now going on the ****, so will have a good play tomorrow with a thick head :D

Totally agree. There are quite a lot of fanboys in the official thread who will attack you for saying anything negative about the game so there's no point in commenting (those blabbering that some people we're taking gaming too seriously... the irony:rolleyes:). The truth is, though, the game really does look mediocre at times and the best testament to this is the fact that I had to use SweetFX to get its visuals to a somewhat decent level. Comparisons to GTAV are pretty pointless, it has Witcher 3 beat in practically every department.

I agree W3 is very addictive and by no means bad but it has quite a lot of quirks which, in my eyes, prevent it from being the "masterpiece" everyone touts it to be. The animations are quirky and the requirements are bloody ridiculous for something that looks like that. The devs opted for a giant world but didn't quite have the resources to make it visually stunning from end to end. Thus, it's mostly filled with copy&paste villages separated by a sea of cardboard grass and 2001 water, where you can't have a conversation with 99% of the population. I would have preferred a smaller, more streamlined experience with more immersive graphics and less quirks. I have yet to find a location which would be as atmospheric and visually pleasing as Flotsam in Witcher 2 (some forested areas are quite impressive with SweetFX, though).
Besides, judging by the 2014 gameplay, most of the textures and effects seemed doable on PC. Did they really had to get rid of that sky because it pushed the hardware too much?;p

There's still loads to do (side quests are better than the main storyline) and I'm surprised I like it as much as I do (because, frankly, I do like it quite a lot), it's just that I expected a bit more from all the hype.

haha yup I got jumped on big time when I posted bad stuff about the game, it certainly seems to have quite the cult following :D

And yeah, this isn't really my usual type of game but I keep coming back to it!

I cant play anything in the game to be honest. The training at the start crashed twice, my first fight right at the start of the game crashed. I cant get any play time without it crashing. Even when it does it locks up my full PC and its a shutdown job before I can get back. Horrible mess of a game, its making me not go back to it.

There must be something wrong. Even though I have some reservations as to how the game looks and plays, it's been spot-on in terms of stability (at least so far). I've only had one crash and it was that bloody Nvidia driver acting up. Maybe the game's particularly finicky with certain configs? Sucks when those kinds of things happen;/ Don't really know what might be causing this...

Not a single crash on my system yet. Runs very well too. Nvidia not so great it seems after all. Lol. :p

Joke aside, have you tried it with a single card?

Trying rolling back your driver see how that goes

No, but will try and see how it goes.

Yeah think I'll have to try that too, its really frustrating.

Have you tried to tinker with IQ settings? With a monster rig such as yours you should be able to max this no problem but maybe there's something that's cocking things up? Are you running SweetFX or vanilla?

Everything is all maxed, all settings. I'm running 1200p. Nothing installed like sfx, just vanilla. When I do get a few mins of game time everything is as smooth as a babies bum. The 980's are fairly quiet so I know they are not having to work too hard but I do hear them ramp up. When I get home I'll try the drivers stuff etc.

Unfortunately the way Game Works is set up, it looks like it is intentionally designed to punish AMD.

For example hair works. 64x tessellation on hair when it looks just the same at 16x is not only a waste of performance on Nvidia cards, but done to punish AMD to the maximum.

Bad.

I’m all for providing devs with libraries to make our games better and more immersive. But I get the impression Nvidia are using this as a way to not only punish AMD, but to also make artificial conditions to push their latest line of cards.

It's very naughty.

On the flip side, should we be happy that this is happening as it is pushing the envelop of what Devs are trying to achieve in games?

Unless of course it's not set up to punish anyone, but just using the latest advancement in the current series of cards.

For example the 900 series is 3x faster at tesselation than the 700 series, hence the use of 64x tesselation in the witcher 3.

But these settings should be configurable in game. Is this not a Dev issue rather than Nvidia?

Also these practices are not anything new and this wont be the last time. This is how things operate in this industry.

This is why I will not be in the slightest suprised when it comes to light that the current 900 series and anything below will not have full hardware level support for DX12.

It's just not in Nvidia's interest. Think how many millions of GPU's they can sell when people relaise they need to upgraded for full DX12 support!

Downloaded it but haven't tried it yet. Interesting stuff but I don't think there's a point in messing with those settings on a single 970, judging by how I can't max the game as is at a stable framerate (and I still wonder why given the graphics):p It seems to run visibly smoother on 1.4 with foliage distance on ultra, though. And it looks crisper as well.

I was fairly impressed with Novigrad, doesn't look even half as bad as in those infamous shots. I can't even imagine how good it would look had they included all the effects/textures from the 2014 gameplay.

Ok, then AMD users turn off Hairworks and use your own technologies. Is it that hard to do ? Gameworks itself has been proven time and time again it does not hurt AMD performance. So if Hairworks is the only stick you have to beat Nvidia with, turn the ****ing **** off.
