CPU & AIO getting hot, why?

Ive noticed the past week my cpu and aio getting very hot. i have 6700k and its reaching early 80c when playing games. I put my hand ontop the case where the aio radiator is and it felt pretty hot. Cleaned the radiator and fans out with air compressor can and a brush and its not made any difference. When the cpu is not running anything its in the late 40's.

Some googling suggest that temps are a little high but not in the realms of throttling thats when it hits 85-90.

Any ideas on what i could do to improve the temps, is applying new TIM on it advised. Ive had this pc since 2018 and have been very naughty and never cleaned the radiator out until today.

Copied this from another site and they recommend doing this:
The first thing you need to do is change the CPU voltage type to Adaptive. The second thing you need to do is change the CPU voltage to 1.200v (that's the base voltage of your CPU). The Auto setting is over-volting your CPU a bit.

Never done anything like that before, is it worth ago?

Make sure the pump and fans are still running at the right speeds, check the screws holding the cooler onto the cpu are still tight. Small amounts of liquid will eventually leech through the hoses so you may just need to replace it, what make is it?
Reapplying the tim may help too.

Corsair 240mm cant remember its name but its from 2018.

idle temps mid 30's so when its under load it shoots right up. Can temps increase depending on how demanding a game can be? Im currently playing a very modern game (baldurs gate 3) and maybe its too much for the cpu?

5yrs is a good innings.

A similar thing happened with my aio, the pump gave up the ghost.

Recommendations for a replacement.

Thanks for the reply. Im going to try the thermalpaste first and if that dont work, im sort of leaning towards a new system as i feel its definetly due and also probably just go air cooling this time lol.

6700K is feeling its age now, so it's reasonable to plan an upgrade.
If you just want to keep it functioning in the meantime: I have a cheapo air cooler (Cooler Master Hyper 212) on my 6700K, it's good enough - and then you have a working pc to repurpose or sell.

We're not aware of his budget/choice of cpu for the upgrade. So this was a cheap proven option for last gen if he was to go that route and save money?

What? the BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 4 for a £60/£70 cooler

thermalright peerless assassin
costs less in some cases half, performs better

Where have you seen that, I have a Peerless Assassin and the tdp is rated lower than the Dark Rock Pro 4 I was going to buy, I only bought the PA120SE due to the cost and having a 5700x

everywhere, my PA120 was 29.99

I paid £36.99 posted next day for mine like 6 months ago, it's a 120SE.
I did want the DRP4 but everyone said I wouldn't 'need it for a 5700x' so to get the PA...

When I looked it up at the time I red the PA was suited to a lower tdp than the DRP4? That's awesome if it can hang with the big boys then as the DRP4 matches/beats the NH-D15 or whatever it's called doesn't it. And that was the fanboy's favourite.

then you made a good choice.. the SE and none SE are the same all be it one fin..

the TDP of a cooler is only ever half the story, the fans make a massive difference and also the placement of heat pipes.

the problem with the DP4 it is from a time with a 150w CPU was some big stuff... and the silent fans was ok with that, but even back in the day it wasn't the best
now we have CPU's pulling over 250w the DP4 fans just cant do what's needed. and a technically smaller cooler with better fans can and dose crush it

the 6700k was a 91w CPU, it wasn't hard to cool, my boy as one with a thermalright single tower and it games at 60c
the 13900k is a 253w cpu at max boost...

The DRP4 is rated for 250w, have you actually used one?
Hence why I said it was rated higher as I wanted one originally before buying the PA120SE... The PA was rated for "200+" whereas the DRP4 is literally rated for "250w"

Read the spec.

I watched countless reviews of the DRP4 used on the hottest intels and things like the 5800x3d, upon which the 'halo' cooler was the NH-D15 which the DRP4 beat by a little in many tests. So I find it very hard to believe it's fans will be an issue when it's made by a company well known for making high cfm/quiet operating fans... Along with the heatsink design being proven to work very well. Obviously you could make it even more efficient by fitting louder higher cfm fans on but as with anything...

If you compare the specs of the fans used on the DRP4 you'll actually see the only difference is the BeQuiet's are quieter and something like 5-8cfm less from memory. As I said I wanted the DRP4 originally but chose the PA, so I like both and have no bias I just didn't need an extra 50w capable cooling on a 5700x...
