hi,

I have a heatkiller rev 3.0 CPU block on my current CPU which is socket 1366, now it appears that the layout for socket 2011 is the same.

however does anyone know if I need any adaptors atall or does the block just fit the new socket like for like??

2011 doesn't use a backplate for a start, though the 1366 stand offs may screw directly into the socket :)

Drop watercool a message they should be able to 100% confirm :)

If you purchase the ASUS IV Formula or ASUS IV Rampage Extreme in my case you get x-socket back plate for 1366 compatibility. So in most cases you will need the back plate.

If Socket 2011 is the same size (mounting hole spacing) as 1366, then why not use the 1366 back plate?

I'm confused... Googling specs for 1366 and 2011....

for future for anyone else that has this issue the only differance is the screw size you just need m4 35 rather then the slightly smaller ones you get for the 1366

Really?

Surely the length depends on the cooler you are fitting. Correct me if I'm wrong, but M4 35mm is an M4 thread, 35mm in length...

So what do you do when you have a swiftech Apogee type water block? I'd guess you'd have to remove the thumb screws and then replace with longer ones, with a spring load to prevent over tightening...

I'd just email swiftech see what they say. but the hole layout for 2011 & 1366 appear to be the same just depends on the fittings I guess

Right this is what I done to fit my EK block to a 2011 socket,

Google 'Phobya M4 CPU Waterblock Mounting Kit in Black' and buy it.

I simply cut the heads off the bolts supplied in this kit so I had 4 studs to screw into the 2011 mounting plate, then install the waterblock with the washers, springs and thumb nuts in the kit.

That should be good for any block I'd think.

From briefly looking at the pictures, M4 studded bar would do fine. Or cut the heads off some standard M4 screws. If anything this is a good thing - you don't need a new backplate.
