CPU break in period??

install, boot up and check it works (eg run 3d mark and prime or something) to check you have no issues with the hardware, then put under water.

Its not such a problem on cpu as you can remove the block and sort out the cpu etc easily, only annoying if its a gpu etc.

Microelectronic items have a time to performe. Ie you TV or hifi is better once it's been on for an hour but over 100+ it gets lots better.

It's called burn in.

Use it as it is then abuse it. It allows all the diaeltics to settle with useage. Any flaws will show.

Just being on will do for a week. I never turn my hifi off

As soon as mine was up and running installed Win 7, OC'd my 920 to 4.2GHz used IBT > threads set to 8 > 20 runs standard > 10 runs at high. Thats all l do for stability, been at 4.2GHz for 16months no problems at all. During that time just refined my Bios settings for 4.2GHz.

Is 'break in' suppose to be similar to how you would 'run in' a new car?

A CPU just gets hot. Other than thermal expansion I can't see how changes to the physical properties can alter performance over a long period of time?

only certain things need runing in, as mentioned allready a car also tvs.
Not cpu`s but the thermal paste that you apply to the cpu needs a running in period i read in the instrutions after that the paste dispates the heat better.

It's called BS.

My speakers "burnt" in, but that's more to do with the mechanical side of things. BH5 RAM was legendary for burning in though, but I've never heard of CPUs improving with age.

Just clock the nuts off it once you've established that it does actually work.

Regarding hi fis, the only thing that improves or change with time is speakers. This is physical as the cone is a moving part and loosens over time. The 'diaeltrics settle' stuff is if course complete mumbo jumbo.

Depends on the paste. AS5 does need curing time, but it doesn;t restrict clocking. Also that indigo does! But thats pretty advanced stuff!

Build rig, find overclocking guide, proceed to bios. The only item connected to my pc that needed a burn in period were my headphones, (ns1000's), theese sounded a lot better after a few weeks use.
