i have a q6600 that freezes when playing games. it doesnt matter what games thay all freeze with a high pitched noise out of the speakers.

i'm monitoring temps with core temp and real temp, niether reporting the cpu overheating. it happened with the stock fan and now is happening with a ac freezer pro. the tim was cleaned and reapplied during installation. cpu speed is stock, os is windows 7 ulitmate 64 and i have 4gb 6400 ram and a 9800gt.

what is the prob? unstable processor or graphics driver? :(

I highly doubt it is the Q6600 as they are rock solid. Did you reseat the cpu cooler properly. What powersupply are you using?. It may be that during gaming the pc can't get enough power from the powersupply.

its a hiper 580w psu, worked fine with my overclocked e6600. surely if the cooler was seted incorrectly, temps would be higher than before?

Did you reset BIOS before installing Q6600 in your motherboard? It could be that old settings are causing an interference.

Edit: Also what motherboard are you using btw?

Are you using a NVIDIA board? I notice from your sig that you have a SB Audigy and using a x64 OS, could it be the Creative squeal of death?

My PC used to do similar, freeze with games (mainly COD4) with a high pitch squeal, that was an EVGA Nvidia board with Xfi and XP64, the motherboard died and I replaced it with an P45 board and have not had it since using the same cpu (Q6600) and Xfi card.

Maybe check out that you have the latest drivers for your motherboard and soundcard?

Yeah update your graphics drivers and see if they make any difference. Also check what graphics card temperature you are getting while gaming with GPU-Z program :)

updated gfx drivers, removed soundcard and flashed bios still doing it! it does not seem to be temp related so maybe its not a cpu issue.

should i have reinstalled windows when i changed cpu? also reinstalled directx 11 no joy

Do you have another card you can try? - I've experienced similar problems and it's been graphics card related.

just installed empire total war and now the issue is back. idle temps high twenties to mid 30s, highest ive seen was 44c. gpu at 40c idle 55 load. could it be windows 7 issue r a steam issue

If the system is just freezing I wonder if it is not OS and driver related. If it is possible I would suggest you do a full clean install of your OS. That means a format during the OS install process. Just make sure you have backed up your important date.

did that this morning, i'm thinking its something to do with empire total wars directx install as it could corrupt the install. crysis worked this morning with just a clean install of windows but after i installed empire the prob is back.

Why do you think it is the CPU? It could be anything but I'd look at checking you have the correct VDIMM set for the RAM. Untstable RAM could cause games to lock-up.
