cpu freezing

i have a q6600 that freezes when playing games. it doesnt matter what games thay all freeze with a high pitched noise out of the speakers.

i'm monitoring temps with core temp and real temp, niether reporting the cpu overheating. it happened with the stock fan and now is happening with a ac freezer pro. the tim was cleaned and reapplied during installation. cpu speed is stock, os is windows 7 ulitmate 64 and i have 4gb 6400 ram and a 9800gt.

what is the prob? unstable processor or graphics driver? :(

its a hiper 580w psu, worked fine with my overclocked e6600. surely if the cooler was seted incorrectly, temps would be higher than before?

updated gfx drivers, removed soundcard and flashed bios still doing it! it does not seem to be temp related so maybe its not a cpu issue.

should i have reinstalled windows when i changed cpu? also reinstalled directx 11 no joy

just installed empire total war and now the issue is back. idle temps high twenties to mid 30s, highest ive seen was 44c. gpu at 40c idle 55 load. could it be windows 7 issue r a steam issue

did that this morning, i'm thinking its something to do with empire total wars directx install as it could corrupt the install. crysis worked this morning with just a clean install of windows but after i installed empire the prob is back.

there doesnt appear to be any other directx 11 downloads available, the only download i can find is a 9.0c file.

the prob is still continuing :(

updated directx to june 2010 from microsoft website

wondering if the q6600 is drawing more power than the e6600 that was in before?

just loaded all four cores, temps never went above 51c but windows froze. so it looks like the cpu is bust

swapped the Q6600 out for the orginal E6600, handbrake is now stable. ive put the Q6600 back into the acer i got it from and running some test on it. the acer psu wont power up my board. i was running 1.3500v though the quad and even went up to 1.4 but didnt change anything.

its def the Q6600 causing this, the orginal acer it came out of is freezing when running handbrake. guess a free upgrade wasnt for me. what can i do now with it?

the E6600 is working fine in the same mobo, so i dont think theres any bent pins. also it was put in another mobo and it behaved exactly the same.

cool will sort that out, acer system was built 2008 so still within 3 years. :)

cheers for all your help. e6600 booting at 3.0 and current idle temp 16 and 17c was as low as 13 a one point.
