CPU mobo support

Ok long story short I've been having MASSIVE issues after upgrading to 5800x, new bios and a 3080.

I have another thread on that, but wondering, I really wanna put my mobo BIOS back to stock for the Asus x570-p, which I know was working fine on with a 3600 and rtx3070... but then I'm worried my 5800x won't work in it?

Iver tried pretty much everything else (drivers, fresh w10, unplug everything), short of replacing any parts (which I'm buying several now).

I do remember reading somewhere once you update this though cpu support can't be done... So...
1) Will I brick my mobo if I revert to an old bios?
Or
2) will 5800x still work even with old bios?

Also, what are symptoms of a bad cpu guys? CAN they cause say poor draw distance, texture pop in and weird tessellation making the ground move up/down as you get closer/further? Shadow flickers? Bad AA?

Graphics issuies are rarley caused by the cpu, can you try your 3080 in another pc or borrow another gpu ?

Its always a risk flashing an older bios unless you have bios flashback feature on the motherboard, which yours doesn't. You need to check which bios first supported the 5800x

It’s really unlikely the BIOS is the issue.
When you've tried everything I have so far, you can only assume its the most unlikely of causes. Never in 15 years of building have I thought to change a cpu or psu if system POSTS.

I honestly think the mobo is screwed. After the bios update I noticed a
high temp in hw monitor (no idea what), and the pch mobo fan was always at like 2000-3500rpm when just idling in windows.

Does anywhere hear actually know what's behind that fan? Someone said a while ago it's not northbridge, is it chipset cooler, what does chipset actually control, it has a pcie controller? Might explain a lot. Its like the gpu and cpu and parts are unable communicating properly with each other.

*EDIT - So I'm now going to pick up a 3700x I got for £185... Should I try revert to just 5800x bios first? Or right back to the first bios? Issue on asus site is I don't think they say which cpu support added, just "cpu support added".
I'm at the point now where I have to take some risks perhaps... I've done the easy stuff.

I've already had this issue, with now I think 3 gpus. I'm certain it's not gpu.
*They all share the same driver though I think, but not many other people have these issues, so what gives?

I've already tried 4 gpu drivers old and new, one known working on a 3070. Same issue.

+1

A bad CPU or BIOS cannot cause any of the symptoms you've mentioned

Personally I'd be trying a clean windows/driver install - as it doesn't sound like a hardware issue.

LOL... As mentioned I've done the easy stuff, about 10 times over. It's nothing you'd think of right away... unless you're a genius.

The cpu and bios are literally the only things I changed for this to happen. Did drop a screwdriver on mobo though, and spilt some paste. But cleaned well.

Well now I've bought basically every I SHOULD need to make a new system/test the old one...
A 3700x
A seasonic gx 850w
And the same mobo
A cheapo ssd
-
+I've done a full 48 pass on memtest, so I'm sure memory is OK.... Still wondering if I should pick up a cheapo stick.

I'm really REALLY temped to see if I can recreate the issue on the new board, but at the same time petrified if I do that, I won't be able to fix it even if I know the cause. I'll prob keep the 3700x and sell the 5800x if it works.

No dont change the bios just try the 3700x, the small fan is cooling the chipset but ypu tried 2 motherboards it's unlikely its that.

Yeah will try that first... I'm trying to do everything in steps so I can find this bitch of an issue and help all the guys on a group online I'm in I met on YouTube issue videos. Now in discord group.

It's known issue but nobody has the cure... Yet nobody. People saying they've changed their ENTIRE system... And it still doesn't work. Which to me, is impossible. I don't believe it.

They say the power in the house is dirty... So then why did it USED to work?
And why not take it to your mates house to try there? I don't believe em when they say they've tried that.

@slim01, please describe in full detail the method that you have used to flash the bios prior to installing your 5800x.
I'm asking because it could actually be very important. When i say method i mean, what are you flashing from, how is that media formatted, what did you do in the bios before you started the flashing process ?

I'm listening...

OK I THINK this is how it went...

I used the Asus asus "EZ flash" from Windows OS, and the E and Z cannot stand for easy... It was the shadiest thing I've ever seen by asus. Horrible software.
I never update my bios unless needed, so it was stock bios probs.

Didn't even work the first time I tried (said driver not recognised or valid or something) when I tried to install the lastest one, then failed again when I tried the first bios version I saw with "cpu support updated". I tried that again, and it worked. It restarted, in the bios then it updated slowly and painfully for 5 mins, then back into windows.

I think then I Tried again the most recent one and finally it started to pre load it or something as before (whilst in Windows), then restarted, installed and I was on the latest bios.

I'm about 90% sure I did that twice. Then dropped in the 5800x and 3080ti, played some games for can't remember a good 30hrs or so on alien fireteam no issues, then 10hrs or so on Horizon, and noted a FEW issues of poor draw distance and pop of horizon but not major, later got the 3070ti INSTALLED DRIVERS AGAIN, NOTING THEY HAD THE EXACT SAME FILE NAME (idiot) in my downloads folder afterwards, and that's when I really started walking around thinking this ain't right... What a poop gpu... But it wasn't gpu.

Thanks for your insight, means a lot.

I had a feeling that might be the case. NEVER EVER flash from Windows, always flash from the bios. Do the following and see if you see a difference.
Download and save the latest bios from Asus onto a usb stick formatted to fat32................download it direct to the usb stick, don't save it and then move it to the usb stick.
Go to the usb stick, extract the bios, use the re-naming tool it came with and then delete everything on the usb stick other than the re-named bios.
Re-boot to bios and then reset the bios to default, save and re-boot back to the bios.
Go to EZ then click on the new bios, and follow the instructions to flash.

Yeah I knew it was bad but was already balls deep after it started in windows, and well, it seemed to work the first time, so then went to newest drivers.

I will try the above right now! Thank you! However I am confused... I thought was mentioned earlier bios cannot cause these issues?

Also... Is it going to let me install the exact same bios version over itself? Is that what the rename tool is?

I'll also post below everything I've done so far, it's a long read mind you... Please don't bother if you're busy

Potential issues...
(yes, **worst build I've done:))
-spilt a bit of kyronaut paste into cpu socket but thought cleaned up nicely.
-I did have to YANK a 3080ti out of the pcie socket (snapping the retention clip of mobo). There was some bending on the mobo and also dropped a screwdriver on mobo trying to open clip.

Also...
-something hot in pc (46-53c idle), mobo fan idles around 2000rpm and often goes up to +3000rpm.

**what I've tried so far as of 12/11/2021**
-RE-installing newest 3070ti drivers in safe mode after using DDU.
-tried 10+ games across different SSD's. All inhibit some issues.
-"trc" changed "bank cycle time" from 75 to 58 as per jdec specs (all others to xmp).
-tried 3070ti in both pcie slots.
-updated chipset drivers (I was on stock).
-replaced with a gigabyte 3080.
-loaded optimised defaults in BIOS, note: left ram on stock from here.
-fiddled with most display settings in nvidia control panel.
Then...
-disconnected everything (USB 3.0, sound card, all fans ALL old SSD's), left memory in as can't access easy.
-fresh copy of Windows 10, on a brand new ssd.
-did win10 updates,
-installed newest gpu driver (ddu+safe mode).
-loaded Horizon, still looks bad.
-Tried last know working gpu driver (same one I would have used on rtx3070 (June 2021) using DDU + safe mode.
-tried all psu cables in different ports.
-different sata and pcie power cables.
-tried powering pc from different wall socket, room, and also a mains filtering extension.
-plugged gpu into a work monitor with DisplayPort (instead of usual hdmi).
-cleared CMOS.
-48 passes (all) of memtest (default clocks)
-tried praying to the PC gods....

Next steps?
-Try ram in diff slots.
-Try 3080 and ram in new system when it arrives(3700x, a used replacement x570-p, seasonic 850w and the ssd I got before).
-Re-inspect cpu/socket for excess TIM.
-Reinstall bios. Revert to older one?

Forget all that, Just do a proper bios flash first. Then you can go back to windows and do chipset and GPU updates again knowing you have a stable bios.

And off course the latest bios will work with a 5800x. And yes, it will allow you to flash exactly the same bios. Only this time it will allow you to do it without any Windows rubbish.

So what you guys are saying is that yeah bios should not affect graphical issues however it will stop the gpu drivers from being installed correctly?

I just got back from the pub now, will try the above.
