I like to fraps some games, and this always cuts my framerate in two. The video is fine, shows full framerate. But while recording my ingame framerate is drastically reduced, making it harder to play.

What should I upgrade to make this less of an issue?

Currently:

C2D e4400 (overclocked)
4g quality rams
asus p5 deluxe awesome home supermobo thing
ati hd2900xt
win xp

many thanks!

If you are recording CSS, then just record a demo (a lot less demanding than fraps), then after, playback the demo and use fraps to record. That way your FPS in game isn't affected much and you can only record what you need, saving HD space.
