Anyone worried about dropping serious cash on X99 shouldn't worry, I dropped around £600 on a PII 450 when they first came out....and that wasn't too much later than my Dad's uber expensive P200.

I consider my 4790k an absolute bargain, especially considering the stagnation caused by lack of competition plus shrinking difficulties.

Won't be until late 2016 at the earliest before AMD might attempt a comeback, I expect Skylake will be marked up to hell by Intel as a result. :(

cpus aren't that bad now gpus pricing are taking the ****

they know mainly for gaming its all gpu now and they milking it.

gpus even top end have been 400-500 for many many years. last few upto 2000.

then they wonder why people arnt buying. :p

CPU prices, particularly for intels mainstream models has been pretty ok. Take the recent DC 4790k. At release it was cheaper than the previous 4770k. Gpu prices are a bit crazy though, hence I went secondhand for the pair in sig. Buy one cheaply then add another cheaper again a bit later.

all components are dearer than id like them to be

esp at launch, pays to sit n wait

plus the performance leap each generation isn't that huge anymore

My thoughts on what prices should be top end in each componoent field. Bare in mind consoles are £280ish now, i know i know they're rubbish but still relative to a laptop + console + tablet, pc's which are good cost over the odds, i would love these prices -

£300 - max for cpu

£350ish for GPU

£150 mobo

£80 - ram

psu - £50 - for 1200w tbh i think they're overpriced.

Case £60

Monitor £250
