CPU Problem

Also last night i was offered an old PC from the girlfriends house which was only going to be thrown away.

It is Packard Bell with a AMD Athlon XP 2600+, is this comparable to either the P4 1.7 or 2.4 i've bought?
 
Hmm, i might have to amalgamate the 2 pc's then if the Athlon is better. I did notice that it was a bit faster to be honest
 
If i was to swap the AMD over with the motherboard is it a case of just swapping them over and installing the drivers for the graphics card once it had booted up?
 
You'd likely have to re-install windows.

Also some Packard Bells of that era used ATX PSU's with non-standard wiring.
 
Well i got the 2.4 delivered yesterday and have it running at 2.66 stable. Seems to have sped the system up but I'm still unsure if the AMD ran faster
