For those uses I think it's better to go with the i3 and save the cash for later for a GPU upgrade, this will make the build more balanced. Minecraft is not that demanding either (I can't see it being more demanding, even mods are very resource light), so the i5 will be wasted. The 8gb RAM + 1tb HDD will be more worth it in the long run.

So the i3 will be fine if he starts playing games like GRID2 and Need For Speeds? Saves £60 so I will not argue with that.
I honestly have no clue at all what all the numbers and chipset names mean. We just want to get him something that will work with no hassle at all involved other than putting it together and installing the O/S which is 32bit.
We have both agreed that the green LED case is a must for him as he will love that.
4GB memory will have to be enough at the moment to as the W7 we have is 32bit.
