I have ASUS g11cd with an i5 6400 2.7ghz turbo up to 3.2ghz and I want to buy an i5 9600k, can I just install this with stock motherboard without any difference to coolers? Apparently the sockets are the same LGA1151?

To expand on tamzzy's answer, for a 9600k you would need either a Z390, Z370, H370, B360 or H310 chipset motherboard. Your pc has a H110 chipset motherboard so the fastest cpu you could drop into your pc is a i7 7700k and that would probably need a motherboard bios flash (version 1002 dated 23/07/2018 is the latest for your pc).

there any tricks to make mine run a bit faster?
You can't overclock without paying for more expensive K-model CPUs.
Also Intel wants to charge further extra for overclocking with more expensive motherboard chipsets.
Greedy Intel wanting to rob consumers is also why newer CPUs don't work in it, despite of still using same 6th gen Skylake architecture.

Anyway even if newer hex cores would fit, motherboard's CPU VRM likely wouldn't be up to the job of feeding them.
Those market PCs are made for profits, not for selling good hardware at reasonable prices.
Like case of that Asus being last millennium's left over garbage not fit for any higher end PC.

Sorry, I was looking at a model that is 3.6ghz not the 4.0ghz one
Still not worth it.
Quad cores are plain low end now.
And they're going to get curb stomped by next-gen consoles in raw CPU power.
Intel rarely lowers prices of its outdated/obsolete CPUs to their real value level.

As EsaT has said upgrading the CPU only is probably a wasted undertaking. Better to look to upgrade both CPU and motherboard. A new Ryzen CPU is due in a couple of months so if you're not in a major rush it might be prudent to hang tight for a little.

Thanks guys, in the interim I’ve used command prompt and started using windows ultimate performance mode, is this safe to do so? Not gonna fry my computer or anything?
