cracking ones joints

What you've heard: "If your child cracks his knuckles, he'll get arthritis later."
The truth: Sorry, but you'll need to look for another excuse to curb this annoying habit. There's no evidence that it leads to arthritis. In fact, people who crack their knuckles generally have healthier joints than those who don't. So should you encourage it? Nah. It's not the knuckle cracking itself that's protecting them against arthritis, but the fact that they tend to be more physically active than non-crackers, says Tyler Cymet, assistant professor of internal medicine at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, in Baltimore, and the author of a recent study on joint cracking.

10 seconds on google.

Is joint cracking harmful? If you are feeling pain when your joints pop, than you should seek a health care professional. In terms of knuckle cracking, some studies show that knuckle cracking does not cause serious harm. Other studies show that repetitive knuckle cracking can do some damage to the soft tissue of the joint. It may also lead to a weak grip and a swelling hand.

Does anyone else sometimes have the need to repeatedly crack joints? I get a kind of "irritation," more like tension, in my shoulder joints and have to crack them to make it go away. It's like having a really bad itch that you have to scratch, if I don't do it it gets worse.

I get that in my elbows and to a lesser extent my neck, have had it for years. It does get more uncomfortable until I crack them.

Yup. Do it with my elbows all the time. Makes most people winge when I do it, makes my arms feel better though.

Yeah, I have to crack but it's just a work-around for the fact that all the muscles in my lower back are screwed from sitting infront of screens with bad posture all the time.

Yep, I have that in my neck, it just builds up and builds up, only way to stop it is to crack it. People around me really don't like it when I do though, sometimes I can get it really loud.

I get this in my foot, very annoying.

Everytime I bend down on my knees they click too, I really hate it.

I crack my knuckles and individual finger joints and have a vice like grip.

My wrists and neck.

I asked a sporty type about this once and she claimed it was a build up of air between your joints and you dispel the air when you crack them \o/ , upshot being it wasn't problematic

The problem is that you can trap nerves doing it. There's no need to do it, so don't. Simple.

There is a need to do it for some people!

I am horrendous for cracking joints, I can do almost all of mine.

Both wrists, all fingers and joints on fingers including thumbs, left shoulder, left elbow, sternum, neck both sides, most of my spine especially towards the bottom, knees, ankles and toes.

Most of my joints I have to crack due to them feeling tight and uncomfortable, especially my sternum, I get very severe pain in the cartilage between my sternum and where my ribs meet. cracking is the only relief for the pain.

Cracking them has made my joints looser, but it's not actually had an adverse effect on those joints.

My back gives me occasional irritation too, and I usually have to crack my lower back when I get up in the morning as well as my neck.

I've noticed that going to the gym, and doing bench presses specifically helps a lot to deal with my sternum pain, I've just got to get a gym membership sorted out. :p

Outside of the pain, my joints don't give me much in the way of issues, cracking my knuckles and fingers/wrists etc hasn't had a negative impact on the strength of my grip, I like to think I've got fairly strong grip even. :)

I crack my knuckles all the time, sometimes my thumb joints lock up and will crack when I move them, I doubt it's good but I can't stop it happening on my thumbs.
