Crap 295x2 performance

yep its getting used.......still poor fps :(

im absolutely bemused by this, cant think of anything that would be causing such bad performance

What resolution and operating system are you using.

Edit I have just re read your OP

I am also having problems with 2 GPUs @4K with Win 8.1

I ran two 290Xs at stock on the same bench as you and actually scored a lot less than you did, the performance was rubbish. The strange thing is if I use 1 or 4 GPUs the performance is fine but not with 2 GPUs. I have only had this problem for a couple of days from when I upgraded from Win7 to Win8.1

I have also noticed a whole load of other problems with games and steam that I did not have before when I was using Win7.

none of their power supplies could take it

its not 8.1, I have tried 2 x 6gb 780 gtx in here and there performance was what it should have been.

its just this damn 295x2.....

Win 8.1 is fine with NVidia cards as Gregster and Whyscotty have no problems.

With AMD Hawaii it is a different story. I went from a system running Win7 that could run 1,2,3 or 4 Hawaii GPUs @4K with very few problems to Win 8.1 which is a real pain in the £$%^

Even though you have got some games sorted your score in 3dmark is not much better than one 290x overclocked. When I tested crossfire on two 290P's at 1030/1250 I was getting approx 16000 score and near 23000 graphics score. That was running the two in windows 8.1. The low score in 3dmark will affect games and the card will not be running at it's full potential unless you find out what is reducing performance. Maybe you could record the clocks while gaming or benchmarking using Msi afterburner to see if the card is downclocking. Also turn off any power saving on your processor in your bios and in windows as a test to see if it improves your 3dmark score.

any way to record those clocks while gaming?

I have noticed low memory usage on one of the cards

Using Msi Afterburner in the Monitoring tab in it (beside the fan tab where you can set a custom fan profile) tick "Log history to file". Set the directory of the log file to record to your desktop and it will record a txt file in games or benchmarks showing clocks, temps etc. If you could upload the txt file it might produce some information to pinpoint what is exactly happening with performance.

Voltage thanks for reminding me to never ever go dual gpu way. To many problems.

The clocks seem to be normal staying at what they should in 3d. Try disabling powerplay, any cpu power saving modes, framepacing off in catalyst control center and rerun 3dmark. If you have the Tombraider game and run the benchmark I would be able to tell if it scores similar to 2x290P's.

When I tried crossfire it was very smooth and the games I ran had a huge increase in performance. Of course if a game does not support crossfire you will only get 1 card performance.

What speed is you cpu running at by the way and have you put the minimum processor state to 100% in Power options of windows 8.1 so the cpu runs at full speed?
