Crap Fuel Consumption

the sensor in the catalytic converter can give up(or send the wrong reading to the ecu) which will result in poor economy.Does using the same fuel as the rest of the world improve the economy?,as I'm sure there are only slight gains(if any) for using Ultima.

Comparison to mine. 1700cc, full race head, rally cam, twin 40 Webers probably way over-jetted I get about 20mpg or less through town and 25mpg on the motorway screaming through my 4th gear. So I'd say there might be something up with the Corsa, or if you're driving around revving up your loud exhaust then there's your problem.

If I fill up my car (48litres) with optimax, I can expect about 200 miles from a tank if it is all town driving. Usually I get 270/290 miles to a tank.

Corsa? Loud Exhaust?

These guys are generally trying to help on the coupe club forum, and the 32mpg they claim to be getting is what the car by book should be getting on average anyway.

380miles to £40 you are claiming. Thats a lot more than 32mpg!

At 99p per litres thats £4.50 a gallon. You'll need to hit 45mpg to get 400 miles from £40. So 200miles to £40 is 22.5MPG as pointed out earlier

What sort of trips do you do? Short trips from cold everyday ?How manye miles per week etc etc

I bought one of these for my ex, 99 2.0 16v. 20-25mpg round the town is about the norm. Anyone who claims they're getting nearly 40mpg regularly out of one of these is full of ****.

20-22 mpg sounds about right for 98 S Reg Megane Coupe 2.0l 16v if its town driving. how many miles has it done and how long have you owned it.

My 172 used to do 300-350 miles to a tank on a combined cycle (add 50+ miles for motorway only). The fuel computer told me I got 20-26mpg round town and 36-44mpg on the motorway.

My volvo s60 2.0T used to give me low 20s mpg combined.

My new car is a bit better than the 172. (still not saying what it is)

If you need economy buy a diesel or small engined car tbh.

tbh I never said I wanted or need economy.

Just from what they say on the coupe forum the amount of miles I'm getting from a full tank is very low, hence the reason I asked what I could do.

I still think 200 miles from a full tank is low.

But you still haven't said what kind of driving you are doing. I assumed from your first post that your mileage had suddenly decreased significantly, which would point to a fault, hence my sugestions.

For long motorway trips, 22mph would be unacceptably low. If you are only doing a few miles, especialy in start-stop traffic then 22mpg sounds quite normal.

Still need to know what sort of driving your doing.

I had a look at your thread on the coupe forum as well. Each quater on the fuel guage is not necessarily a true reflection on the fuel remaining. My renault used to go down in different stages as do most cars.

It may be your throttle body or injectors which have gone up the spout, you could have a fuel leak or the engine is runing rich.

Try using normal fuel in it for a bit to save some cash and drive it hard to give the engine a good run.

You may be better off selling it and getting a different one. Has it been modified at all like a induction kit, exhaust or super chip?

i get about 26mpg when doing mostly country road driveing not caining it. Thats it my 2.0L 307 ... if you are getting 20mpg from town i wouldnt worry.

Just read my manual and the fuel tank holds 60 litres.

Everytime I fill up it stops filling up at 42 litres. Would this suggest my fuel gauge is knackered?

Thats really poor mpg for a N/A 2 litre, but maybe thats how they made them. You must allready know what to expect roughly

You still haven't answered the questions about how the car is driven.

100 one mile trips is very different to one 100mile journey on a motorway!

Now we know why the other people were getting 380 miles from their's :)

Possibly so. Just spoke to them and they say they normally put in 55 litres plus.
They're only getting about 31 mpg then. Very possible if they do a mixture of driving.
