Crashing... but only in a certain game.

Hey all, got a problem that I hope you can help me with.

About a month ago I started getting random crashing while playing World of Warcraft. It's odd in that it's the only game in which it happens - I play C&C3, UT3, NFS Carbon, to name but a few and i've never had any problems with them.

It can happen anywhere in the game, but the framerate will stall, then the sound will stutter and stutter gradually until it's just frozen totally. Nothing will bring it out at all except a reset.

I thought it was my X-Fi doing it so I took it out and although it stopped for a week or so, it's started doing it again.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also, 8 hours Orthos/8 hours Memtest all passes fine.

If possible get the X2 to use one GPU, just to see if it's a crossfire issue or not.

You can do that via catalyst AI, set it to either "advanced" or "off", for my X2, that made the FPS drop to around that of my previous 2900.

This isn't looking good, it seems a lot of 3870X2s are behaving funny lately, most of them appear to be from powercolor too, well appear anyway.

Have you connected a 6-pin and 8-pin connector to the card?

6-pin and 6-pin as that's all I have.

Further to your post in my other thread, i've managed to keep it looping for 8 hours in 3DM06 without issue.

So now i'm really stumped.

I wish Windows or whatever is causing this is a bit more descriptive, rather than just halting the system. Is there a way to tell?

Moderate load, but not 100%. This was taken after an instance run as well.

To add to it.

- NEVER happens in instances, in flight, or while i'm in combat.
- Tends to happen more frequently in a city, especially Shattrath.

are you using rivatuner at all, because that used to do the exact same thing for me, never understood why, that was on my 8800GTS 320, when changed to G92 the problem stopped, not with world or warcraft since i don't play it, but it was notorious with supreme commander for me

Nah, afraid not. Using the 8.5s (although the 8.4s and 8.3s do the same) with CCC.

Disabling CCC doesn't help.

was havign similar problems in eq2 - forces sync with refresh seemd to have helped some.

Vsync and triple buffering are both on otherwise I have a bit of texture tearing.

I'll turn them off and see what happens.

Didn't fix it.

Will try that Chronic. :)

[Edit] It's not there. :/

Okay, i've played around with network settings, video settings, and WoW settings.

Nothing makes any difference.

Please? Anybody have any suggestions at all?

I have exactly the same problem. Are you rocking Omen or any other add ons? It seems to have only started since I started using Omen. I thought it was my overclock to start with as it didn't seem like an app crash (i.e complete lockup and only hard reset will come out of it) But i haven't played WOW for about a month now and absolutley no problems at all so far. I 'd be interested to hear if u too use addons?:D

If it is only for WoW, maybe it's a addon you may have installed?

Try backing up the addons, and the WTF folders, and run the repair tool.

Once done, run the game again.

Other option - long winded though, copy your whole wow folder for backup purposes, then uninstall the game, reinstall clean, run wow see if you still get problem, if so, just copy your WTF and addons folders, and try again, if issue is back you know for sure its addon related....disable addons 1 by 1, and diagnose the offending addon ???

I do use addons, and i've tried it without them. It doesn't make any difference. :(

I've taken the extreme step of a total re-install. Will post back if it makes any difference.
